Senior Administrative Assistant – Assistant Publications Officer at GAAS
Objectives of the Ghana Academy
In 1959, an Act of Parliament set up the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) to support the creation, acquisition, sharing, and use of knowledge for the growth of the country. It is made up of Fellows who have done great things in the Arts and Sciences. It is led by a Council with a President, Vice-Presidents, an Honorary Secretary, and other chosen members.
The Academy’s work is run by the Executive Secretary and other managerial, secretarial, and clerical staff who make up the Secretariat. Under the direction of the Honorary Secretary, the Executive Secretary is in charge of running the Academy on a day-to-day basis. They are also in charge of the strategic plan and other policy guidelines.
Duty Description:
The Assistant Publications Officer works for the Publications Officer and the Executive Secretary. Also, The Assistant Publications Officer helps the Publications Officer edit and produce publications like monographs, policy papers, and other related documents. The Assistant Publications Officer also helps build and maintain a digital/e-book publishing page/platform.
Scope of Work
- Help organize manuscripts;
- Come up with design ideas and layouts;
- Design and make a wide range of promotional materials, such as leaflets, annual reports, brochures, postcards, banner stands, and ads;
- Work with the Publications Officer to create new publications;
- Build and run the Academy’s digital/e-books platform; and
- Do any other tasks given by the Executive Secretary
Needed Qualifications and Experience
- At least a high school diploma from a public school that is recognized or a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, publishing, creative arts, or a similar field;
- At least two years of experience in the field.
Qualities
- Know design principles, tools, and techniques;
- Know how media is made, shared, and communicated;
- Be creative and artistic;
- Know how to use Microsoft Office Suite and graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.;
- Be able to present ideas well, both orally and visually; and
- Have good writing and speaking skills.
Tenure
based on how well they do their job or until they hit the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
Pay: The pay is the same as an assistant publication officer at a public university in Ghana.
Accra is the place.
