Rice University admissions without application fee for 2024–25
All qualified domestic and international applicants will receive waivers of the doctorate application fee for the Fall 2024 admission term from Rice University’s Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Students from all around the world will be able to use this waiver.
Concerning Rice University
With a 300-acre campus surrounded by trees near Houston, Rice University is one of the top 20 universities in the country according to U.S. News & World Report. Rice University features a residential college structure, a 6-to-1 undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio, and social activities, intramural sports, student productions, lecture series, courses, and student government to support students intellectually, emotionally, and culturally.
Rice University has a long history of cultivating diverse, close-knit college communities, which contributes to its high rankings for best value and best quality of life among private universities.
On May 19, 1891, in the Texas capitol, the William M. Rice Institute for the Advancement of Literature, Science, and Art filed for its state charter. The institute’s original charter stated that its purpose would be “the instruction and improvement of the white inhabitants of the City of Houston and State of Texas,” and it would not charge tuition.
William Marsh Rice, a trader who came to Texas in 1838 and shortly after relocated to the newly established city of Houston, left a $4.6 million gift for the institute. During the 1840s and 1850s, he made his fortune by supplying plantation owners with goods and by selling sugar and cotton crops, which were mostly made with the use of slave labor.
Rice also owned their labor and profited from it. Following the Civil War, he swore allegiance to the reestablished United States and resided in New Jersey and New York, all the while closely monitoring his several lucrative ventures in Texas. On September 23, 1900, in New York, the lawyer and butler of the childless Rice killed him in an attempt to take his wealth.

The focal point of campus life at Rice is the residential college system. The colleges are little towns where students live, eat, and socialize with mentor faculty members. With its administration, financial resources, intramural teams, and academic advisors, every college is an independent entity. As freshmen, students are randomized to one of our eleven coed colleges, with which they stay associated for the duration of their time at Rice.
Clubs and Organizations
At Rice, there aren’t any exclusive social clubs. Participation in more than 200 student organizations, which include academic, athletic, media, religious, cultural, and political clubs, is encouraged and welcomed by all students. With such a wide variety of extracurricular activities available, students can explore new interests or follow current hobbies.
Events and Arts
You can expect exceptional educational and cultural events at Rice. We have it whether you’re interested in politics or theater, either as a performer or a viewer.
The student-run Rice Players put on excellent theatrical productions, and the Shepherd School of Music hosts many concerts annually.
If listening to a lecture is more your style, the Office of the President and the Baker Institute for Public Policy host thought-provoking speakers on a variety of subjects each year on campus.

To raise awareness of and give chances for the development of healthy behavior patterns, a wide range of leisure programs and services have been developed and made available. All are intended to promote the physical, social, and emotional advantages of physical activity to support the teachers, staff, and students at Rice University in maintaining a lifetime of health and wellness.

Throughout its seven academic divisions—architecture, engineering, business, humanities, music, natural sciences, and social sciences—Rice University offers more than fifty undergraduate majors. Requirements for Scholarship Qualifications
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.
- Applications must be completed and submitted by November 27 at 10:59 p.m. CST; if they are not, payment will be necessary.
- Test results (from the GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, etc.) can be submitted after the deadline on November 27, provided that they are received before the application deadline.
- Students must fulfill the prerequisites for admission established by the university in addition to any extra requirements established by your application program.
- Students who are interested in this program should fill out this form by November 1 to obtain a waiver of the application cost, and they should finish their Ph.D. application by November 27 at the latest.
