POSITION: Area Sales Manager (ASM)

Premier Poultry intends to be Ghana’s premier smallholder-focused poultry firm. Our goal is to help rural households become healthier and wealthier by providing them with high-quality, vaccinated, brooded, and inexpensive improved dual-purpose chickens.
Premier Chicken is backed by well-known foreign investors with a track record of chicken sector success, including market leaders in Ethiopia (EthioChicken), Rwanda, and Uganda (Uzima).
Job Description
Report to: the Regional Sales Manager.
Locations include Central, Greater Accra, Savannah, Upper East, Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Bono East, and Volta regions.
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, devoted, results-oriented, and self-driven professionals to assist us create a presence in rural and urban communities around the country.
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) is in charge of managing the advertised regions of Ghana, including building a team of sales representatives who regularly increase day-old chick sales within their territories. The ASM position needs a high level of professionalism, commitment, passion, and motivation, as well as extensive on-the-field travel. This role requires a self-sufficient, consistent result-oriented individual with initiative, strong energy, judgment, and the ability to operate under pressure to reach specified targets and deadlines.
Job Responsibilities
Team Development and Management.
- Launch new areas and recruit Village Ambassadors (VAs) and Agents.
- Identify, recruit, onboard, and train high-performing sales representatives, as needed.
- Manage Sales Representatives to achieve day-old chicks (DOCs) order targets and KPIs through monitoring, training, and coaching.
- Allow sales representatives to find, train, and manage village ambassadors and agents.
- Assist Sales Representatives in making personal contact and building rapport with top-tier decision-makers in the local community.
- Hold monthly meetings with Sales Representatives, Village Ambassadors, and Agents to share experiences, solve difficulties, and offer suggestions on how to increase sales.
- Remove and replace underperforming Sales Representatives on a timely basis. Follow Premier’s talent protocols.
- Travel often across the allocated district(s) to support the team, expand the market, and increase sales.
Sales Planning & Activities
- Create detailed, day-to-day plans to meet DOC sales targets and assure DOC sales growth by developing a strong base of Agents and Village Ambassadors.
- Collaborate with Sales Manager to design sales tactics to expand the market.
- Ensure an adequate supply of month-old birds in each district(s).
- Conduct market and competitive assessments, and recommend any necessary changes in tactics and strategies (e.g., pricing, product, marketing).
- Forecast annual, quarterly, and monthly sales for his or her district(s) to inform production planning.
Technical Follow-up.
- Train Sales Representatives on technical poultry knowledge that is useful to smallholders, Village Ambassadors, and Agents. Topics include brooding, feed management, vaccination, record keeping, biosecurity, disease diagnosis, and treatment.
- Assess and report disease prevalence within your cluster to the sales manager.
- Perform technical follow-up as needed to support clients.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor and report on weekly and monthly DOC instructions from agents.
- Monitor and report VA performance, such as orders per week.
- Identify and resolve Agent and Smallholder issues.
External Relations
- Introduce Premier Poultry to local government and stakeholders while expanding into new territory.
- Inform management of any changes in local rules or policies that influence our firm.
- Represent the company at all sector-related meetings and activities in the designated district(s).
Key Performance Indicators
The success of Sales Reps
- Total number of day-old chicks sold, number of VAs in the territory, and average order size per VA.
- Number of agents, average order size, and cycle time per agent
Qualitative KPIs:
- Team management and coaching
- Communication skills
- Sales Planning and Forecasting
Required Skill or Experience
Recommended Qualifications:
- No experience is required, and recent graduates are welcome.
- Recommended: Bachelor’s degree or higher diploma in animal production, animal health, agroeconomics, veterinary science, or a related discipline.
