POSITION: Cost Accountant
Premier Poultry intends to be Ghana’s premier smallholder-focused poultry firm. Our goal is to help rural households become healthier and wealthier by providing them with high-quality, vaccinated, brooded, and inexpensive improved dual-purpose chickens.
Premier Chicken is backed by well-known foreign investors with a track record of chicken sector success, including market leaders in Ethiopia (EthioChicken), Rwanda, and Uganda (Uzima).
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, devoted, results-oriented, and self-driven workers to assist us create a presence in rural and urban communities around the country.
The Cost Officer is in charge of developing, managing, and implementing all cost accounting systems to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the cost of production for hatching eggs and day-old chicks. This includes documenting, publishing, adjusting, reconciling, and reporting all production-related financial data.
The cost officer will also control inventory management, ensuring that the company’s inventory is secure, tracking transactions, and entering accurate data into the Dear system. Managing these tasks entails creating frequent reports and maintaining compliance with reporting requirements. Responsibilities
- Inventory account reconciliation is conducted weekly (including checks surrounding all inventory-related purchases).
- Weekly management reports are supplied for all costing team items.
- Month-end costing reports submitted by the deadlines listed below, including trend analysis and interpretation, such as:
- Stock takes performed and reports sent within 5 business days of the end of the month.
- Issues with COGS or costing are proactively identified (e.g., DOC expenses exceeding sale price, unusual production costs after assembly, DOC issues, etc.).
- Team training is given to other members as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Costing and Inventory Management
- Oversee the inventory and costing procedures for effectively tracking COGS and managing corporate inventory.
- Every quarter, do an inventory reserve analysis (a summary of spoiled or damaged products) and prepare management reports.
- Conduct random inventory inspections and ensure that inventory reports are accurate.
- Maintain current inventories of finished goods and raw resources.
- Proper completion and matching of the Requisition form, pro forma invoice, purchase order, and invoice GRV
- Plan and record variable costs, such as raw material purchases and operating expenses.
- Take charge of weekly and monthly stock counts and reconciliations for the breeder farm, hatchery, stores, and any stock kept on third-party premises.
- Work with Production leadership to assess production costs weekly and monthly.
- Maintain and evaluate the general ledger and reconcile balance sheet inventory items every month.
- Analyse the costs of raw materials and other supplies, and then do a cost-benefit analysis for changing vendors.
- Assisted with month-end and year-end closing by preparing production reports.
- Collaborate with the Group Systems and Costing Supervisor and the Finance Manager to develop cost-tracking systems using accounting software.
- Create a Bill of Materials (B.O.M.) and assemblies in the Dear system.
Reporting
- Take the lead in producing monthly breeder farm and hatchery productivity reports.
- Generate weekly and monthly inventory reconciliation reports.
- Ensure that all inventory GL lines are reconciled in the Dear and Xero systems.
- Ensure that all inventory availability in Dear and Xero is reconciled.
External Stakeholder Management
- Maintain relationships with essential company partners, such as suppliers, about discrepancy reconciliations of statements
- Help with providing information to external auditors during annual audits.
Other tasks
- Support the Finance Manager during month-end reporting.
- Be the custodian of inventory record books (stock cards, dispatch notes, goods received notes, goods transfer notes, etc.) and assure their availability at all stock locations.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Requirements include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting from an authorized university, as well as a path to becoming a chartered accountant.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting position
