Ghana Somubi Dwumadie (Ghana Participation Initiative) is a four-year disability initiative in Ghana that focuses on mental health. The UK government provides funding for this programme. A partnership that includes BasicNeeds-Ghana, King’s College London, Sightsavers International, and Tropical Health runs the program. It focuses on four main areas:
- Strengthening policies and procedures that respect the rights of people with disabilities, especially those with mental health problems.
- Expanding high-quality and accessible mental health care.
- Reducing stigma and discrimination towards people with disabilities, especially mental health impairments
- Creating evidence to guide policy and practice about the effectiveness of disability and mental health programs and interventions.
Job Description
Reporting to: Communications Manager
Responsibilities
- Implementing the communications plan under the guidance of the Communications Manager.
- Write, edit, and disseminate information, such as publications, press releases, blogs, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing materials that communicate the program’s activities.
- Create innovative content for social media to highlight major program events with an impact, such as Instagram Reels and Twitter content.
- Maintain excellent contacts with journalists and keep a media database.
- Maintain and update the content on the website.
- Create regular internal and external newsletters.
- Take photographs during significant events.
- Identify opportunities for external involvement, including events and media.
Required Skill or Experience
Essential
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a communications function.
- Experience working with people with impairments, particularly those with mental health issues.
- Experience in website management.
- An accomplished social media user and content generator.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems (such as SharePoint), and social media platforms.
Desirable
- Knowledge of desktop publishing applications (such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and InDesign).
- Experience in content marketing.
