POSITION: Structural Engineer

About This Role:
To assist the business (both the Operations Services, Process Operations, and Mine Operations departments) by performing the necessary planning, engineering, construction, and project management duties required to deliver structural/civil projects from scoping to execution, start-up, and turnover stages.
In this role, you will
Project Planning and Reporting:
- Coordinate, plan, and schedule project activities from the scoping to the execution stages using the Newmont Capital Effectiveness Stage Gate procedure.
- Collaborate with engineering consultants to verify that engineering design outputs match project requirements and standards.
Structured Design
- Measure and calculate environmental or human-caused loads and pressures.
- Create structural models with computer-aided design tools.
- Perform structural engineering design (including concrete, steel, and timber design) and ensure that all engineering deliverables satisfy project specifications and standards while remaining on schedule and within budget.
- Engineer non-electrical infrastructure projects according to project specifications and standards.
- Design, oversee, and coach CAD technicians to create engineering design deliverables.
- Follow the construction safety rules.
Engineering, Construction, and Management Support
- Provide full specifications for proposed solutions, including the time and scope required.
- Prepare an engineering and construction scope of work to support the bid package.
- Create cost estimates and economic evaluations to assist project business cases, including the development of AFEs.
- Provide field engineering and construction management support by inspecting the project site and evaluating contractor work to uncover design flaws and verify compliance with design standards.
- Create proposal documents for engineering and construction bidding purposes.
- Assist other department engineers in developing practical demonstrations of potential solutions and presenting them to other team members.
Your Training, Skills, and Experience Checklist
Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):
- Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or a similar subject.
- Must be a member of a recognised Engineering Professional Body in Ghana.
Additional Knowledge
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, and/or other structural/civil design tools.
Calculations for structural design are carried out manually.
Experience
- A minimum of five years of experience with ongoing structural design projects.
- Must have prior experience working on real estate/resettlement housing projects in the mining industry.
- Must have previous experience working on foundation, concrete, steel, and portal framing designs in the mining industry.
- Experienced in project engineering and construction.
- Must have handled numerous designs simultaneously.
