ROLE: Documentation & Sustainability Knowledge Dissemination Specialist

Project Summary:

Act | West is an eight-year program (2018-2026) that aims to eliminate NTDs in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The initiative aims to build on USAID’s past NTD investments (2010-2019) in West Africa, which have helped to eliminate LF and trachoma as public health problems, as well as onchocerciasis (OV) in select countries.

It intends to create NTD programs capable of supporting long-term control strategies for schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths, and OV, as well as to mainstream NTD programs into the national health system.

Job Summary:

The documentation and cross-country knowledge dissemination specialist will assist USAID’s Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) | West Program (Act | West) with health system strengthening (HSS) to facilitate long-term delivery of NTD services. Create, create, and edit technical briefs, toolkits, training materials, and technical publications, such as case studies and other relevant documentation.

Integrates multiple sources of information into a consistent style and language that is easy to understand for a wide range of audiences. May help with technical publication. Helps create documentation for educational, descriptive, reference, and/or informational reasons. Oversees the review, approval, and amendment of technical briefs, case studies, publications, specifications, and forms. Works with initiators to rewrite, clarify, or reconstruct controlled documents to meet FHI 360 and client criteria, ensuring technical content accuracy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Examines published documents and suggests corrections or changes to scope, format, and content.
  • Observes projects, developmental and experimental activities, and consults with technical teams, country leads, and Technical Assistance (TA) partners to identify and document linkages and anchor points between the project’s supported NTDs and the strengthening and sustainability of health systems.
  • Conduct a desk study and evaluate project reports and papers, as well as publications, to create and disseminate an index/spreadsheet/catalogue of all Sustainability and HSS-related publications, presentations, blogs, and so on.
  • Identify promising sustainability initiatives and document the experiences or instances of best practices that can be distributed within the context of the Act | West program’s implementation, including the conditions or prerequisites for replication.
  • Facilitates validation activities for a list of sustainability practices that have been prioritized for documentation with the help of subject-matter experts.
  • Interview personnel and read related material to become familiar with the sustainability planning process, USAID framework and guidance for promoting sustainability, and develop a documentation plan that includes a timeline, roles, and contributions expected from designated country teams, technical assistance (TA) partners, and implementing partners (IPs).
  • Assists with the preparation, proofreading, editing, and assembly of publications.
  • Identify lessons learned, experiences, and topics/subjects for future research that can be included in the Act | West learning agendas.
  • Oversees and manages the development, editing, and production of sustainability-related publications, case studies, technical briefs series, and other relevant products that support the HSS component of the Act | West initiative.
  • Serves as the final reader, ensuring that new sustainability-related publications promote FHI360’s research and programs while adhering to FHI360 and USAID’s editorial and ethical guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Act | West Communication team to promote and disseminate newly generated sustainability-related papers.
  • Coordinate the technical preparation of sustainability-related webinars for country peer learning, exchanging experiences based on the documentation process, and work with the Act | West Communication team to design, promote, and implement such webinars.
  • Collect best practices identified during the documentation phase of the various initiatives, and recommend strategies and actions for sharing best practices.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in social sciences, international development, education, public health, and technical communication-related fields.
  • Requires at least 8 years of experience designing, publishing, and editing technical publications.
  • Requires at least 5 years of experience curating and managing documentation and/or the publication process.
  • Prior expertise with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Prior experience in a government agency or non-governmental organization (NGO) is advantageous.
  • Prior experience as a technical writer and documentation of best practices is advantageous.
  • Experience in West Africa is required, as is understanding of the region’s government institutions.

  • Ability to translate technical content such that it is understandable to general audiences.

  • The technical writer’s decisions to include or exclude process stages, graphics, and other details in a procedure or other technical document can have a substantial impact on compliance, process efficiency, and productivity.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Makes recommendations to management for sustainable knowledge sharing solutions to suit the Act | West program’s internal and external needs.
  • Helps department subject-matter experts write strong documentation procedures.
  • Reports to the Health System Strengthening Lead

Travel Requirements: Less than 25%.
