Job Description
Candidates must exhibit a strong commitment and passion for improving education systems and promoting equality and social change in Africa; the Research Lead should be a thought leader with published publications in the fields of social development and education.
AFC is particularly interested in studies in basic education, early learning, gender equality, social inclusion, education in emergencies, and continent-wide development. Candidates must be resourceful, adaptive, and well-organized to lead teams and perform well under pressure.
The Research Lead’s Responsibilities:
- The Research Lead will collaborate closely with the AFC Director and senior management on all aspects of the firm’s ongoing research and consulting projects.
- He/she will be in charge of the management and technical implementation of large-scale research and consultancy initiatives throughout Africa.
- Lead research analysis teams, ensure quality control and create writing strategies for complicated multidisciplinary studies.
- Oversee research fellows and teams to create high-quality mixed-method research evidence, focusing on education, gender equality, and development issues.
- Ensure that the organization is releasing peer-reviewed publications, working papers, and policy briefs based on major research findings from AFC’s current portfolio of programs running in West Africa.
Required Skill or Experience
Research Lead Requirements:
- Completed a Ph.D. or MPhil in Social Sciences from a recognized university, ideally in education, economics, sociology, development studies, or other related subjects, with at least 3 to 5 years of research and/or consulting experience.
- Should have a demonstrated interest in education and social development, as well as experience working in the continent’s poorest areas.
- Have demonstrated proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research, project management, team management, and evaluation, as well as exceptional presentation, analytical, and writing abilities.
- Must possess great leadership, problem-solving, team-building, and management skills.
