THE WORK AT THE FOUNDATION

We are in an exciting time at the Mastercard Foundation as we ramp up the implementation of the Young Africa Works plan, which aims to enable 30 million young people in Africa to find dignified and fulfilling work. We have opened offices in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda to ensure the Foundation’s accessibility to our partners and program participants. These offices provide substantial in-country assistance for Young Africa Works implementation.

We work with governments, the private sector, educators, and other funders to improve the quality of education and vocational training, prepare young people for the workforce, increase access to financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and connect job seekers with meaningful employment opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Program Partner, Gender and Safeguarding will work with the country program team to develop gender and safeguarding responsive programs in line with the Foundation’s commitment to enabling dignified and fulfilling work for young women and young people in general.

WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

  • In conjunction with the Gender and Safeguarding Lead, support the country’s gender mainstreaming activities.
  • Support the development and/or adaption of gender analysis tools, as well as their application to diverse programs and teams.
  • Contribute to the identification, documentation, and mobilization of gender and safeguarding-related insights and learnings from the Foundation’s present and future portfolio of activities in the country.
  • Contribute to the Foundation’s learning culture by being reflective, people-focused, and grounded on gender-sensitive evidence.
  • Assist in identifying and contributing to gender expertise, as well as ensuring an enabling environment and policy to guide country partnership development and monitoring procedures.
  • Work with Program Leads / Partners to assess proposals and provide assistance in defining strategic outcomes and program roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the evolution and conceptualization of innovative gender approaches to scale.
  • Assist and advise partners on the most effective strategies to invest in and involve young men and women in program delivery.
  • Assist the national team in ensuring that cross-cutting components of gender and all of its intersections are mainstreamed across all program components. Coordination of the
  • Gender and Safeguarding Community of Practice (CoP).
  • Support for gender analysis, capability evaluations, and research, among other programmatic initiatives at the country level.
  • Oversee and guide CoP activities and events in terms of strategy and implementation.
  • Support the adaptation and development of gender and safeguarding analysis tools to fit the country context, as well as technical assistance in applying them to various initiatives at the national level.
  • Support in finding and implementing good gender and safeguarding practices, as well as facilitating the sharing of promising practices within and among program teams.
  • Assist in establishing ties with groups that work on gender issues and diverse segments of young people, as well as with safeguarding.
  • Collaborate with the country’s Gender and Protection Office. Lead the effort to discover and contribute to relevant learning networks and/or communities of practice, as well as represent the Foundation in gender and safeguarding-related events at the national and international levels.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Degree in a related field, such as gender/women/youth studies, international development, community engagement, social science, or a comparable field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in gender, program management, safeguarding and/or child protection, young people and community mobilization, coalition building, and organizing events involving young women and men in the country, with a proven track record of integrating safe outcomes into programs and operations.
  • Solid progressive responsibility experience in the development and private sectors, with a track record of integrating gender equality results into programs and operations.
  • Strong coordination abilities and project management knowledge are required. Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) proficiency.
  • Excellent organizational and event planning skills, as well as the ability to manage several activities at the same time.
  • Previous experience working in an organization that works with and for women, young people, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups Fluency in the local language(s) is advantageous.
  • Flexible, flexible, and capable of carrying out a variety of job obligations and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, writing, and presentation abilities, as well as the ability to convey information to a diverse range of constituents across cultures and to reduce complex facts and data into easily digestible conversation and written pieces.
  • Possesses professional maturity, cultural sensitivity, and flawless honesty, which embody the Foundation’s principles.
