Job Title: Advisor For Rural Development

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – is a public-benefit federal enterprise working in more than 100 countries worldwide. We work for the German government and help public and private clients in a wide range of areas, such as economic development and employment, energy and the environment, and peace and security. Our activities focus on three priority areas: Energy and Climate, which deals with renewable energy and energy efficiency; Training and Sustainable Growth for Decent Jobs; and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies, which focuses on good governance

Project Summary:

• The REACH project aims to make 14 northern Ghana districts more resistant to climate change’s effects.
• By taking a lot of steps to build people’s skills in conservation agriculture, working with the community, and better planning and policies
• The problems caused by climate change in rural areas are dealt with at the District level.
• The European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development both help pay for the project.
• It is part of the EU Ghana Agricultural Programme, which is run with the help of Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).

Scope of Role:

• As an Advisor for Rural Development, it’s your job to find, create, and put into place methods that help farmers produce crops that can withstand changes in weather in the agricultural sector.
• To do this, you work with the Agricultural Extension Service of MoFA, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the private sector.
•  During the project, you work with other units to come up with ways to change people’s behavior and new ways to get people involved.

Tasks

• Coming up with ideas for multi-stakeholder partnerships for putting rural development plans into action together
•  Making conceptual connections and developing integrated solutions with other parts of the project, especially. Communication, ICT, and GIS.
•  Advising partners about Conservation Agriculture, Community Engagement, and other areas of Rural Development.
• Take on responsibility for making sure that the processes set by the production unit are carried out, as well as other tasks.
•  Write up terms of reference, budgets, surveys, specifications, and other documents to hire service providers or buy goods.
• Keep an eye on and manage the tasks and activities of external service providers.
•  Make sure that the rules and regulations about getting agrochemicals and other agro-inputs are followed.

Needed Qualifications and Experience

• A master’s degree in a field related to the job, such as rural development, agronomy, agroecology, agricultural extension, community development, or any other relevant field.
• 5 years of professional experience in the field of rural development, with a focus on Extension Services, Climate Change, Conservation Agriculture, and/or Community Engagement, as well as experience working with public sector institutions.
• Proven ability to work with a lot of different people and make and keep good relationships with private companies and government employees
• Knows Microsoft Office very well, especially MS Team, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• You should be very good at English. Knowing the local languages of Upper West is a big plus.
• A good understanding of the Upper West Region’s culture and how it works
• The ability to work well under pressure, a strong sense of teamwork, and the ability to work with others and negotiate
