ROLE: PORTFOLIO SPECIALIST, GHANA COCOA BELT, RESTORATION INITIATIVE

Regarding the Program:

The Restoration Initiative of WRI educates, empowers, and finances individuals who rehabilitate damaged land. TerraFund for AFR100, the team’s flagship investment program for locally-led African community-based non-profits and companies, now offers funding and training to 100 developing organizations that generate sustainable employment throughout 27 AFR100 Initiative member nations. Until 2026, this program will grow to provide more restoration champions with resources in the Ghana Cocoa Belt and other African priority landscapes.

Career Highlight:

You will support and manage a group of developing community-based organizations and small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the Ghana Cocoa Belt region as a portfolio specialist who will be based there and working to restore degraded land throughout the region.

Moreover, You will comprehend, direct, coordinate, and oversee the execution of a new group of agriculture and forestry groups that have received money and capacity building for land restoration. You will give leaders who are mobilizing localities to plant trees and reclaim land your direct support.

You will specifically collaborate with industry professionals to evaluate and interview community organizations who have submitted funding requests through the TerraFund for AFR100 requests for proposals. You’ll make sure financed projects adhere to the WRI’s integrated program for the landscape and vision.

This is an exceptional chance to support the Restoration Initiative’s pledge to deploy considerable resources and capacity to the restoration of the farms, woodlands, and pastures in the Ghana Cocoa Belt.

You will be a part of a growing group of professionals in the fields of finance, public policy, project management, product development, and monitoring who are striving to make the ambitious AFR100 objective of restoring 100 million hectares of land by 2030 a reality.

Responsibilities

Management of projects (90%):

  • To ensure that each candidate receives a thorough vetting from specialists at WRI and partner organizations, coordinate the selection process for regional organizations that submit applications to TerraFund for AFR100 requests for proposals.
  • Then, Identify the sponsored and aspirational organizations’ needs for technical help and connect them with a regional and global coalition of subject-matter experts to meet those needs.
  • Also, Create and oversee the work plans of regional groups in the Ghana Cocoa Belt that get financing from TerraFund for AFR100, letting them know what is expected of them and ensuring that they finish their tasks.
  • Ensure effective management of supported initiatives by cooperating closely with WRI’s partners, such as One Tree Planted, Realize Impact, and national and local government organizations like the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Work with the TerraMatch product team to support the building of new platform features that address their demands and difficulties as the resident TerraMatch expert for supported projects in Ghana’s cocoa belt.
  • Plan and carry out site visits to financed projects to make sure logistics are efficient.
  • Lastly, Help donor reporting by gathering data from the field and project-related tales.

Communications & Research (10%):

  • Cooperate with TerraMatch, the AFR100 Community Coordinator, the Ghana Cocoa Belt Landscape Coordinator, and the Product Specialist to make sure that project MRV guidelines are appropriate for the region and effectively communicated.
  • Inform the larger WRI and AFR100 teams of the project’s status (and any difficulties) that are unique to the Ghana Cocoa Belt.
  • To inform donors, government officials, and the public, conduct high-level research on the pipeline of community groups and businesses in the Ghana Cocoa Belt.

What you’ll require is:

  • You’ve earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry, agriculture, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • You have three years or more of experience, including project management.
  • You have shown that you are capable of using online project management tools and platforms like Airtable and Monday.com and guiding new users through the learning process.
  • You’ve had direct experience in Ghana working with enterprises or initiatives in agriculture, forestry, or restoration.
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English as well as Akan.
  • You must currently have the legal right to work in the Ghana Cocoa Belt.
