Job Vacancy at World Resource Institute

Job title: GIS RESEARCH ASSOCIATE GHANA

About the Program:

The Global Restoration Initiative of the World Resources Institute (WRI) works to inspire, enable, and carry out restoration on degraded landscapes, bringing them back to economic and environmental productivity. WRI and its partners have found more than 700 million hectares of cleared and degraded forest and farmland in Africa that could be restored.

Using this information as a starting point, we work to help turn degraded lands back into natural forests, agroforestry systems, or land that can be used for farming. The African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100), which is part of WRI’s work to restore forests in Africa, is a big part of this.

Job Highlight:

In this job, you will come up with new ideas and help with research and implementation of monitoring efforts for tree-based forest and landscape restoration. This includes helping with research and analysis of remote sensing products using GIS software and/or Python to answer important questions in the restoration monitoring domain.

Your work will help important international efforts by the private sector, governments, and non-profits to develop and standardize a science-based way to track the restoration of forests and landscapes in Ghana and across AFR100 countries.

You will be helped by WRI Africa colleagues in Kenya and Rwanda, WRI Global colleagues in Washington, DC, and Europe, and Ghana country partners in the EPA, District Assemblies, Forestry Commission, and Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority.
