MSI Ghana works alongside the Ministry of Health and Child Care to provide high-quality, low-cost general health and sexual and reproductive health services throughout Ghana.

Job Description.

MSI Ghana is looking for passionate, organized, client-oriented, and dynamic individuals with the following qualifications and experience in Accra. MSI Ghana’s mission is to address the needs of the underprivileged and increase access to Family Planning (FP) and other Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services. At MSI Reproductive Choices, we are unequivocally pro-choice.

Contract length: Permanent, full-time.

The Head of Medical Services leads the Medical Development Team. This person oversees all MSIG clinical projects across all service delivery channels (e.g., Centres, Public Sector Strengthening, Social franchise/accredited networks, etc.) and considers financial, operational, and clinical performance. He/she will examine standards and performance for strategic decision-making by reviewing monthly clinical findings and incidence reports and monitoring/supportive supervisory visits to clinical service delivery points.

He/she will also investigate MSIG consumer complaints and assist the Marketing Team with clinical interviews to protect MSIG’s brand. Then, He/she manages clinical concerns, communicates with MDT members about clinical standards and quality in the MSI collaboration, and supports local programs with service delivery and/or training.

Key Responsibilities

Technical leadership across all service delivery channels, including M&E

  • Meet regularly with SMT, GHS, and other key stakeholders in SRH to provide the leadership required to meet MSIG’s clinical goals.
  • Assist with and participate in media interviews about clinical treatment and clinical issues as needed to safeguard and enhance MSIG’s reputation.
  • Ensure that MSIG has an active and effective Medical Advisory Team (MAT), under MSI/MDT policies.
  • Support the handling of all clinical issues, including major and small incidents, and ensure that reports are signed and delivered to London and MAT as needed.
  • Maintain clinical relevance; occasionally provide direct service delivery and/or training as appropriate.
  • Participates in monitoring care at all MSIG institutions through a quality assurance strategy that fosters self-evaluation and planning for appropriate modifications to satisfy MSI/MDT quality outputs.
  • Maintain current and accurate understanding of state and national SRH standards, and ensure that MSIG complies with accepted levels of care.
  • Work closely with the operations and M&E teams to ensure that recommendations from internal and external QTAs, data validation exercises, and mystery customer visits are quickly and effectively implemented by Regional Managers.

Departmental Leadership

  • Provide leadership and advice to MDT and M&E; motivate and coach MDT and M&E members, especially direct reports; and guarantee that all MDT and M&E members are accountable and professional.
  • Ensure that other departments’ clinical operations are conducted with a high level of cooperation, coordination, and participation.
  • Manage recruiting, team motivation, and personal and professional development for all team members in coordination with the Head of Human Resources and Administration.
  • Contribute to business planning processes to ensure that clinical technical assistance requirements are well-represented in-country business plans and budgets.
  • Lead the quarterly Medical Advisory Team (MAT) meetings and supervise the implementation of all MAT action items.
  • Ensure that monthly M&E updates are provided, as well as the implementation of all action items.
  • Ensure that the M&E team adheres to all internal MSG policies (e.g., finance, procurement, human resource management, etc.).
  • Ensure MSIG’s M&E systems match with MSI-defined frameworks and indicators.

Clinical Quality and Assurance

  • Monitor the quality performance of all MSIG service delivery channels; regularly examine dashboards and other reports to support choices to improve clinical services for clients.
  • Responsible for ensuring that MDT responds quickly to all medical crises and logistical issues, as well as assuring and supporting correct management of complications.
  • Maintain proper client records in each service delivery channel, and conduct clinical record audits as required by MDT.
  • Liaise with the Operations teams to ensure clinical quality requirements are met and clinical quality action plans are implemented.
  • Ensure that medical incident reporting systems fulfill the needs of clients by properly documenting service-related occurrences at all MSIG clinical outlets.
  • Ensure that reported occurrences are examined within the MDT’s statutory timeline and that effective post-incident action plans are prepared and fully implemented.
  • Ensure that all relevant and current MSI policies and guidelines are available and followed at all service delivery sites.
  • Ensure that equipment and product quality audits are carried out quarterly per service delivery site and that any existing deficiencies are corrected.
  • Oversee the RME & L team’s work plan and budget creation and implementation.
  • Identify knowledge gaps inside the organization and do strategic research and/or secondary data analysis to remedy them.

Capacity Building

  • Ensure that all clinical staff in the program undergo annual competency assessments for each clinical service they provide.
  • Maintain and update an accurate clinical competency and training database for all clinical staff in the country program, including sessional employees, every quarter.
  • Encourages his or her professional growth through self-directed and continual education.
  • Issues and distributes educational resources (books, periodicals, essays) to other teams
  • Attends at least one international conference on SRH each year to get international exposure and improve MSI global/regional activities.

Required Skill or Experience

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • Requirements for licensure include an advanced degree in nursing, midwifery, or medicine with a focus on public health, as well as a professional certificate in these fields.
  • Evidence of good standing with a recognized clinical-related professional body in Ghana.
  • 15 years of expertise in SRH, project management, training, monitoring, and supervision.
  • Reliable and capable of working extended hours without direct supervision.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, determined, flexible
  • Highly developed communication skills with demonstrated cultural sensitivity to sexual and reproductive health concerns
  • Capable of applying strong clinical skills with the Internet, word, excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Substantial clinical experience, including clinical management and supervision.
  • Strong research background and ability to prepare technical papers.
  • Proficient in providing FP and SRH clinical services.
  • Working knowledge of IT skills in Internet, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent clinical skills in at least two of the following medical procedures: manual vacuum aspiration, medical abortion, tubal ligation, IUCD insertion, implant insertion or vasectomy.
  • Reliable and capable of working extended hours without direct supervision.
  • Access to all sexual and reproductive services as allowed under Ghanaian law.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, determined, flexible
  • Highly developed communication skills and exhibited cultural awareness.
  • Desire to use superior clinical talents to achieve social goals
  • Able and willing to travel locally and internationally.
