ROLE: Senior Curriculum Development Consultant
ABOUT THE LUMINOS FUND
The Luminos Fund (www.luminosfund.org) assists thousands of out-of-school children in catching up to grade level, reintegrating into public schools, and preparing for lifelong learning. Luminos is expanding its accelerated learning program in collaboration with community-based groups to ensure that all children, particularly those excluded from education due to crises, poverty, or discrimination, have equitable access to joyful, foundational learning. Luminos has given over 277,541 children a second opportunity to learn. Luminos is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works in Ethiopia, Ghana, Lebanon, Liberia, and the Gambia.
Luminos receives funding from a variety of sources, including Cartier Philanthropy, Dubai Cares, Legatum, and the UBS Optimus Foundation. For the past six years, Luminos has received the 2022 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prize, the Library of Congress International Literacy Award, the Lipman Family Prize, the WISE Award, and the Hundred Global Innovation Award.
DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Senior Curriculum Development Consultant will work with the Luminos Ghana team and government partners to revise teaching and learning materials for Ghana’s Complementary Basic Education (CBE) program in up to five languages. They will teach core literacy and numeracy using an evidence-based approach. The consultant will specifically:
- Examine and improve existing Luminos Asante Twi teaching and learning resources, such as organized teachers’ guides, learner books, and formative evaluations. These resources were created to improve CBE implementation by using learning outcome data from the first two years of deployment to optimize design.
- Assist the Luminos Ghana team in putting together committees of appropriate specialists (including language and curricular experts) for each additional language of teaching.
- Luminos Ghana personnel and committee members should be advised, trained, and mentored in applying the Luminos Asante Twi model to adapt the CBE technique for each new language of instruction.
EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED
- Experience building curricula organized instructors’ guides, and learning materials for early-grade reading programs in a language other than English using a phonics method.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED
- Experience building early-grade numeracy and mathematics curricula, teacher aids, and learning resources.
- Experience creating and delivering early-grade literacy and numeracy teacher training.
- Experience helping teachers provide effective education that promotes student learning.
- Worked with government agencies to create, refine, and/or accredit teaching and learning resources.
- Applicants must have legal permission to work in the nation where they will be based at the time of application.
