Role Title: Bookkeeper
Company Profile
Lively Minds, an award-winning nonprofit, is looking for people to help with our ambitious and exciting Early Childhood Development program in Ghana and Uganda.
Position Description
The bookkeeper will be responsible for general finance and accounting activities that require high accuracy, as well as providing junior-level financial support to the finance and programming teams.
Responsibilities
Processing of transactions
- Process and prepare financial and business forms in order to monitor account balances, facilitate purchases, and so on.
- Carry out typical calculations in order to provide analysis and reports as the finance manager directs.
- Assist in the supervision and management of individual accounts.
- Gather and enter data for various financial spreadsheets, double-checking accuracy.
- Assist employees with the filling out of business process forms, receipts, and payment vouchers.
- Keep track of all payables and receivables to ensure that Lively Minds does not overlook maturing receivables and payables.
Procurement and Logistics Support
- Assist the Procurement and Logistics Officer in coordinating the day-to-day operations of
- A fully compliant procurement system and associated operational procedures.
- Assist the Procurement and Logistics Officer with data collection and analysis from vehicle records.
Observance of Policies and Procedures
- Before processing, review requisitions to ensure proper coding and authorizations are obtained.
- Resolve any discrepancies or inaccuracies discovered through conversations with staff and/or clients.
- Inform the appropriate authorities of any problematic discoveries or suspicions of wrongdoing.
- Create a statutory return tracking system and ensure that Lively Minds does not fall behind on its statutory responsibilities.
- Also, Keep track of any violations of Lively Minds’ financial policies and procedures and bring them to the attention of the supervisor.
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Then, assist finance officers in the regular preparation of routine financial reports.
- Answer financial queries and assist stakeholders and staff with situations that require explanation.
- Participate in finance department meetings, producing minutes, and following up on unresolved concerns.
- Lastly, changes or enhancements that are required to increase accuracy, efficiency, and cost savings should be suggested to the supervisor. In the absence of Bolga Finance and
Required Qualifications or Experience
- HND in Accounting with 2+ years experience or Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) with 3+ years experience are required. Higher education may compensate for a lack of work experience.
- Knowledge of how to code transactions using a chart of accounts.
- English proficiency is required.
- Data input proficiency utilizing common software
- Desirable Experience and Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Excel proficiency is preferred.
- Accounting software experience is preferred.
- Good communication skills and the ability to convey information in graphs and charts for non-finance people to understand
- Excellent time management skills and a willingness to work beyond hours when necessary.
- Ability to work in a multicultural context.
- You will be judged on how well you perform against the Lively Minds Competencies.
