ROLE: Biomedical Engineer/Advisor

Since 1978, Jhpiego Corporation in Ghana has been giving technical support to the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service in a number of areas, such as cervical cancer treatment and prevention, community health, HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn health, health workforce capacity development (both pre-service and in-service), family planning, malaria, IPC/WASH, and Covid19 responses.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create a plan for building based on the specifications for the LOX infrastructure and other oxygen-generating infrastructure
- Make rules about how to hire construction, biomedical, and electrical subcontractors to help with the building.
- Give the government and the donor reports on the technical results and work with them.
- Set up bonds and guarantors for subcontractors to turn in to make sure the project is done right and within the time frame that was agreed upon.
- Visit the facilities as a supportive supervisor to make sure they are built according to the specifications.
- Help the Jhpiego country office with technical support for other technologies that produce oxygen and infrastructure and projects related to oxygen.
- Medical staff and biomedical engineers will be trained, and technical support will be given on how to use the LOX, PSA plant, and other oxygen infrastructure in the health facilities and regional health directorates of the project’s beneficiaries.
- Help other RISE projects in other countries with biomedical and oxygen-related projects that need technical help.
- Follow the rules and policies for Jhpiego and JHU operations.

Skills or Experience Needed
- Must be a medical doctor or a nurse with training in anesthesia and intensive care, infectious disease, or emergency medicine/nursing.
- Must be a fellow in public health and intensive care, infectious disease, critical care or emergency medicine, or nursing.
- Must have a BLS and Infection Prevention and Control certification.
- Must know a lot about preventing and stopping infections (IPC).
- Must have more than five years of experience taking care of sick and injured people in Ghana.
- Must know how to treat patients with mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19.
- If this person is on the National Case Management Team for COVID-19 in Ghana, that is a plus.
- Having a Master’s degree in public health is a plus.
Skills and abilities needed:
- Knowledge of the Ghana Health System and the way reports are made, as well as a proven ability to work with government officials to improve program implementation.
- Proven ability to work with and collaborate with a wide range of local and international partner organizations
- They are very good at leading, building teams, and coordinating.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, including technical writing skills that have been shown to be good enough to be published.
- Ability to work well with teams from different countries and a willingness to learn and give others power
- Ability to work in a complicated setting with many tasks, tight deadlines, and a lot of pressure to do well.
- able and willing to travel to implementation areas and health facilities often
