POSITION: Senior Metallurgist

Job Description:

Our mining client is working on a highly exciting Greenfields project and needs a Senior Metallurgist to join their team. The job will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, altering, and improving the metallurgical strategies for the Modular DMS and Main Processing Plants, all while aiming for zero impact to people, contractors, and the environment. The Metallurgist/Senior Metallurgist will align business and operational strategies with the goal of increasing throughput and spodumene recovery while optimizing process plant operating costs against a variety of KPIs.

Responsibilities:

  • During your time in Australia, you will be responsible for establishing a health and safety culture, adhering to all relevant policies, and ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental incidents are reported immediately.
  • Provide technical support to the Modular DMS Plant Project during the design and construction phases in South Africa.
  • Provide technical support for the Ore Sorter Study/Project, Flotation Studies, and Main Processing Plant Design.
  • Provide additional technical assistance and advice to the Principal Metallurgist as needed; and
  • Take over the Principal Metallurgist’s tasks while he is on leave.
  • Assisting with the operation and management of the metallurgical laboratory for test work and programs for continuous improvement and plant optimization;
  • Assist with the development of training modules and training of locals.
  • Resolving medium to long-term metallurgical difficulties related to the operational plant, identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects;
  • Set, monitor, and report on short-term metallurgical parameters and control techniques, including setting addition rates and controlling and monitoring utilization of all concentrator reagent consumables;
  • Assist with the metallurgical accounting and reconciliation process, from crusher feed to trucked final concentrate.
  • Reviewing and enhancing standards and safe operating procedures for all metallurgical tasks (both in the lab and on the field);
  • Working closely with the Principal Metallurgist to build a consistent strategy to continuous improvement and ensure that information flow between operations (Modular
  • DMS and Main Plants) is adequately managed.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret engineering drawings such as process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

Qualification and Skills

  • Applicants must be Ghanaian citizens with metallurgy, chemical engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • First-aid certificate and knowledge of emergency response techniques.
  • Over 5 years of experience in fixed plant processing.
  • Experience in hard rock processing is desirable but not required;
  • Technical expertise and experience in lab management processes, including lab sample management systems, is desirable but not required.
  • Strong technical understanding of crushing, dense medium separation (DMS), milling, and flotation circuits;
  • Experience with commissioning and delivering operational improvement projects.
  • Demonstrated track record of problem-solving and solution execution in a multidisciplinary team-based setting.
  • Experience with process trends and simulation software.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in isolated and/or high-temperature environments;
  • Possess or demonstrate the competence to get the appropriate Minerals Commission statutory certificates.
  • Fluency in English and ability to speak Akan or Fante.
