Job Description
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding a five-year program called “Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity” that ACDI/VOCA is helping to run as a vendor. The goal of the GTI Activity is to help Ghana’s economy grow by making it easier for exports to grow, encouraging investment in high-value commercial crops, creating jobs, especially for women and young people, and helping the economy become more diverse.
The goals of GTI are to improve the ways that businesses work so that they can be more productive and grow. GTI will make it easier for companies that trade items across borders to get investments. This will spur innovation and build up the trade sector as a whole.
As part of its purpose, ACDI/VOCA is looking for a skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Buyer Linkages Specialist. The job will be in Accra, and the GTI SME and Entrepreneurship Development Director will be in charge.
The Buyer Linkages Specialist will be in charge of providing technical implementation support in Component C of the GTI activity, mostly in the areas of export market development, trade show involvement, international marketing, and customer relationship management.
Working with other members of the Component C Team, the Buyer Linkages Specialist will keep in touch with GTI’s partner SMEs after each trade event to make sure that B2B matches lead to long-term sales and achieve key contract results.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The person in charge of Buyer Linkages will:
- Help GTI/GEPA-sponsored exporters, other associations, and individual SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) boost sales and exports by giving them technical help and support.
- Help Ghanaian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) take part in international trade shows, buyer trade missions, and buyer trade meetings in all ways that are needed to grow sales and exports. Help might include finding and talking to potential buyers, giving coaching and training on the market and sales, putting together marketing materials and samples for display, and keeping in touch with buyers after the sale and delivery.
- Help build relationships with foreign buyers by coordinating Ghanaian trade visits and meetings with buyers and trips to Ghana by buyers.
- Give the Objective C Team and Ghanaian exporters market information on a wide range of topics, such as product trends, marketing strategies, booth design, packaging and label design, and brand development, as required.
- Track the success of stakeholder SMEs on key results, such as income, employment, exports, and investment, with the help of the MEL Team.
- Provide feedback on the GTI’s annual work plans, weekly reports, quarterly and annual reports, success stories, briefs, and any other communication needs the GTI’s management may have.
- Find out what training is needed for exporting and help set up training classes and webinars with the right STTA or BDS providers.
- Learn what the export requirements are in each target market and put this knowledge in a way that exporters can understand. Research and answer any questions that Ghanaian traders might have about this.
Required Skills or Experience
- At least a BA or BSc in business, marketing, communications, agribusiness, or a similar field.
- At least 5 years of experience in foreign business or markets, with more and more responsibility, helping companies sell into new markets.
- Showed experience helping to make sales at foreign trade shows for agriculture and processed foods.
- Proven knowledge and results in dealing with importers and buyers in the private sector.
- Have direct experience with market research, marketing, importing and exporting, customer service, and managing relationships.
- Excellent analytical and report-writing skills, and the ability to work well under tight schedules.
- Self-starter with great people skills who can work both alone and with a group.
- Strong English writing and speaking skills.
- able to work and move outside of Accra
