POSITION: Process Metallurgist

About this Role:

To provide technical support for site operations. This will require preparing and analyzing laboratory or plant samples, conducting and monitoring laboratory and plant tests, and communicating and reporting results to appropriate parties.

In this role, you will:

Technical Functions

  • Conduct weekly GAP checks on main crushers and analyze the results.
  • Conduct a monthly crusher product size analysis and provide operational advice on the crusher product.
  • Conduct a daily weightometer assessment on CV003.
  • Coordinate the rate of adding grinding media to all mills.
  • Ensure that the automated ball chargers work at all times.
  • Monitor the mill’s parameters to verify they are running within the specified parameters (power, weight, inlet and discharge water addition rates, hopper levels, densities, circulation load ratio, cyclone pressure, and so on).
  • Monitor the pebble crusher’s output and coordinate gap adjustment. Ensure that the weekly pebble crusher feed and product size analysis are completed and relayed to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate mill relining works during shutdowns.
  • Ensure that the mill liners required for each relining are always accessible.
  • Coordinate and update the downtime estimator.
  • Ensure that liner measurement and profiling are completed during shutdown using both the manual and scan approaches.
  • Ensure that pebble dewatering screens and trommel screen panels are always available.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret mill slicer information to guide process operations.
  • Ensure that cyclone components are available at all times for repair work.
  • Coordinate with the supply chain (SC) to ensure that grinding media is always available for all mills.
  • Ensure that a quarterly quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) analysis of grinding media is completed.
  • Take daily belt cut samples from CV003 and CV001 for moisture content analysis.
  • Ensure that all carbon in leach (CIL) and tails autosamplers, cyanide analyzers, online pH meters, DO meters, densitometers, and flowmeters are operational at all times.
  • Ensure that carbon quality checks on fresh and circuit carbon are conducted every quarter.
  • Before transferring to carbon in leach (CIL) tanks, be sure that all fresh carbon has been conditioned.

  • Demonstrate compliance with standards and practices by wearing obligatory protective clothes and PPE as needed.
  • Reporting and addressing dangerous actions or circumstances.
  • Actively participating in safety meetings and promoting safe working practices.
  • Strict compliance with specified standard operating procedures (SOPs), standard task permits (STPs), work policies, and security measures.
  • Actively participating in hazard detection and correction.
  • Reporting environmental spills quickly and taking proper precautions to prevent contamination.
  • Attend all safety meetings.

Your Training, Skills, and Experience:

Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):

  • A degree in extractive metallurgy or similar.

Additional knowledge:

  • Understanding of metallurgical principles and industrial norms.
  • Knowledge of metallurgical plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of the statutory regulations governing safety and the environment.

Experience:

  • Three years or more of field experience, as well as experience with metallurgical processes.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of statutory regulations governing mining safety and the environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Analytic and problem-solving abilities.
