A respected company in Tema’s industrial region is recruiting for experienced Shipping Clearance Officers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all immigration, customs, and visa matters, as well as the embarkation and disembarkation processes, ship certificates, and other port clearance papers.
  • Monitors and ensures that the Sailor manifest is always accurate and up to date, taking into account stateroom modifications, sailors joining mid-voyage, and so on.
  • The primary point of contact between the vessel and local port agents for Captain and Sailor-related issues.
  • Responsible for arranging embarkation and disembarkation sets and processes with ship and ground crew, as well as clearing the vessel with local authorities in each port of call.
  • Ensures that the vessel complies with all legal Sailor citizenship/visa papers, implementing a ‘zero tolerance’ policy.
  • Responsible for transmitting the sailor/crew’s e-NOA/D file to US CBP and US Coast Guard upon sailing or entrance into the US, as needed and in compliance with US and international legislation.  Provides manifests to the dock embarkation workers.
  • Responsible for manifesting cargo to be offloaded from the vessel while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Provides information to respective Heads of Department on all Sailors embarking and disembarking during a journey, as well as reconciling the sailor/crew movement report.
  • Notifies the Bridge that embarkation is complete and all Sailors and Ship personnel are cleared to sail.
  • Distributes the sailor manifest to the bridge and department leaders as needed after sailing from the port of embarkation.
  • Responsible for any Sailor and Crew medical disembarkations in collaboration with the Medical staff and Crew Service Manager.
  • Ensures that crew members’ books are completed with the correct embarkation dates.
  • Ensures that all check-in equipment is correctly prepared and ready for embarkation.
  • Manages airplane ticket change requests for sailors as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Freight Forwarding proficiency certificate from Customs Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in clearing, shipping, transportation, or related field required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
