POSITION: Senior Assistant Librarian
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has approved the private AsanSka University College of Design and Technology, which is a part of the University of Education, Winneba in Accra, Ghana. We are a practice-based university that offers Degree, Diploma, and Certificate programs in Jewellery Design Technology, Digital Media and Communication Design, Fashion Design, and Product Design and Entrepreneurship.
To join our team, we are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Senior Assistant Librarian. You must have exceptional knowledge of library database systems, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills, as a large portion of your job will entail engaging with staff and students.
Principal Responsibilities
- Collection Development: Oversee and manage the acquisition and organization of library materials such as books, digital resources, journals, and other pertinent materials.
- Information Services: Provide superior reference and research support to faculty, students, and other staff through information services.
- Cataloging and Classification: Ensure that library items are cataloged, classified, and maintained accurately and in compliance with professional standards.
- Management of Digital Resources: Oversee the digital collection, which includes e-books, e-journals, and databases, assuring accessibility and user-friendly interfaces.
- Library Technology: Work with the IT Department to ensure that library technologies, such as integrated library software and online databases, run smoothly. Maintain and keep library records up-to-date.
- Research Assistance: Assist academics and students with their research by giving access to research tools and other relevant resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- An approved master’s degree in Library Studies/Information Studies is required.
- Knowledge of library administration systems, cataloging, and categorization standards is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Prior experience in an academic library setting is preferred.
