About the role:
The Economic Analyst is critical to the Ghana program’s success. They will actively contribute to the advancement of analytical work on economic issues pertaining to resource governance in Ghana. This includes taking the lead and providing significant contributions to economic research and data that will inform capacity building, policy reform, and advocacy initiatives in Ghana’s energy transition, transition minerals, and revenue management programs.
The ideal applicant should comprehend and have familiarity with Ghanaian economic policy concerns and analysis. The Economic Analyst is expected to have technical knowledge of extractive governance, economics, energy transition, transition minerals, revenue management, and governance. This knowledge will be critical in developing expert analysis, conducting research, and offering critical policy advice to support NRGI’s attempts to drive transformation in Ghana.
Working closely with the Ghana team, particularly the Senior Program Officer, the Legal and Economics team, and other relevant NRGI teams, the post holder will help to advance research, data analysis, knowledge, and advocacy. They will play an important role in defining and influencing government policy by providing technical help, expert opinions, and policy analysis on essential program issues within the Ghana program. Building strategic and effective partnerships with national institutions, government officials, development partners, civil society (including media, women’s, and youth groups), and the commercial sector is also an important facet of the job.
The selected candidate should have good analytical skills as well as experience in public speaking and presentations. With a background in economics and the extractive industry, they will help with advocacy, capacity building, and technical assistance by providing expertise, tactics, and interventions, as well as combining global learnings, experiences, and programs into Ghana’s local context.

Education and Qualifications
A first degree in economics or a similar discipline is necessary. Earlier or extra degrees in related fields (e.g., public policy, finance, law, international development, or engineering) are recommended.
This role may be suitable if you have…
- A minimum of 7–8 years of experience as an economic analyst in the broader field of international development.
- At least 5 years of expertise in extractive sector governance or one of the following areas: public financial management, state-owned company management, energy transformation, or taxation.
- A thorough awareness of the relationship between rules, government, and business activity; familiarity with national and regional programs aimed at improving good governance in the extractive industries sector.
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including experience constructing complicated models, combining data sets from many sources, and driving strategic analysis and interpretation.
- Extensive experience advising decision-makers on complicated policies or corporate challenges.
- Ability to provide training and other capacity-building initiatives to a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Significant regional experience, with a focus on Francophone Africa.
- Possess the gravitas, credibility, and capacity to begin and develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders at the project, nation, and region levels; expertise working with
- African regional institutions and donors, as well as institutions that demand distinct methods
- Ability to think intellectually and strategically over a 3-5 year period.
- Experience managing and allocating resources effectively.
- Fluent in French and English, with exceptional writing, speaking, and presenting abilities.
- Excellent cross-cultural communication skills, particularly the capacity and/or desire to interact with the media and use social media (e.g., Twitter) to link NRGI’s work to pertinent current events.
