Position Title: Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Description

Direct Material Supplies Limited, a company in Obuasi that provides mine support services, is looking for suitable people to fill the following roles. This is a Fixed-Term job with a competitive work schedule at its Obuasi business. The compensation plan includes a good salary and payments based on how well the job is done.

Key Responsibilities

• Makes layout drawings of projects, taking into account the site, the tools, and any other facilities that are available.
• Makes an idea of how mechanical and structural engineering installations will work for a job.
• Makes detailed mechanical and structural engineering plans for installations that show structural steelwork and piping work so that different installation and building work can be done correctly and well.
• Makes working drawings that include details about the materials and fabrications needed for each project so that these things can be made locally or bought so that the projects can be done.
• Sets up the layout and general arrangement for jobs that involve mechanical or structural engineering.
• Makes sure that the things that are made match the standards and specs exactly so that there aren’t any problems when they are installed.
• Helps make predictions of how much certain structural work on a project will cost.
• Checks installations on a regular basis to make sure work is being done as planned and according to specs.
• Makes drawings of how broken-down parts need to be changed to fit local conditions so that these parts can be made in the DMS workshop.
• Makes and sends out basic reports on how projects are going.
• Makes sure that the workshop always has the things it needs.
• Helps the Project Manager come up with specifications for tools and materials to be bought both in the United States and abroad.
• Makes sure that all the drawing office tools is in good shape.
• Helps with designs from other countries and makes changes to them if needed to fit local situations.

Skills or Experience Needed

• At least a Higher National Diploma (Mechanical) or City and Guilds Mechanical Engineering Technicians Part III (Production).
• With at least five years of experience in a fabrication shop, installing heavy tools and structures, and doing design work.
• Having experience in digging would be a big plus.
• Must have a legal driving license from Ghana and be able to drive a manual car.
• Be able to think creatively and have a knack for engineering drawing.
• A good understanding of engineering materials and how to work in a workshop.
• A good understanding of technical drawings, specs, and methods.
• Good skills with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Capable of making sketches and design drawings that are neat and exact.
• Being able to work long hours
• Being able to act on your own and make quick choices.
• A good understanding of how to estimate costs and do the math for structural steelwork.
• Having a strong sense of duty.
• Creativity and new ideas.
• Good people skills so he could work with his bosses and coworkers.
• Both physically and mentally.
