ACET is looking for an Advocacy Lead to collaborate with partners across the institution to create a robust advocacy architecture inside ACET to increase its impact and influence on issues connected to Africa’s economic transformation.
Job Summary
The Advocacy Lead will collaborate with partners across the institution to establish a robust advocacy architecture inside ACET, resulting in greater effect and influence on issues relevant to Africa’s economic development.
ACET’s advocacy approach is based on being a critical friend and thought leader for Africa, with a focus on solid analysis and economic policy prioritization to influence decisions and drive action; It is not an activist organization by nature, but it makes evidence freely available for use by activists, civil society, and other groups in their efforts to influence the public and policy decisions. Understanding this technique and having the judgment required to execute it properly will be critical to its function. Key focus topics for ACET advocacy in 2024 and beyond include Africa’s Agenda for Global Financial Architecture Reform, Gender Equity and Economic Transformation, Climate Finance, Driving Economic Transformation, Jobs and Skills for Youth, and others.
The ideal applicant will have prior experience developing and maintaining institutional networks, as well as a thorough awareness of the African political and economic landscape, in order to identify opportunities for participation.
Roles and responsibilities
- Determine the relationships and possible reach of ACET personnel, Board, Transformation Leadership Panel, Fellows, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying and maintaining advocacy partnerships with prominent organizations and individuals on the African continent and beyond to advance regional and global problems requiring a collective African viewpoint.
- Identify ways for ACET network members to help advance agendas through personal contacts and public appearances.
- Plan and execute strategic meetings to help agendas move ahead.
- Collaborate with ACET Directors and team leaders to improve program and project advocacy, as well as create senior-level networks to advocate policy proposals.
- Create and implement a strong, forward-thinking advocacy strategy for ACET.
- Keep up-to-date on current topics affecting ACET’s posture and partnership activities, and give monthly issue summaries.
- Have a well-developed network of contacts and partners in African organizations, governments, and development organizations, as well as the ability to find and connect with new organizations and persons as needed.
- Create and maintain a key contact database showing the state of engagements.
- Collaborate with the Resource Mobilization team to improve pitch and donor outreach materials, as well as find prospective new funding partners.
- Collaborate with Communications Team members to create impactful messaging for ACET network members.
- Perform other duties as needed to support ACET’s advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership goals.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in public policy, economics, international relations, or a related discipline.
- A track record of successfully implementing advocacy activities in the international development sector.
- Ideally, a well-established network of connections in African economic and finance ministries, agencies, and organizations.
- A track record of engaging major stakeholders on the African continent, including the African Union, the African Development Bank, country governments, civil society organizations, and economic policy institutions.
