POSITION: Project Manager

Project Title: “Developing A Double-Duty Food-Based Policy Bundle to Ensure Healthier Diets in Ghana” (Healthier Diets 4 Healthy Lives Project).

The Healthier Diets 4 Healthier Lives (HD4HL) Project is looking for highly qualified people to apply for the position of Project Manager. Here are the details about the job.

Project Description

By 2030, non-communicable diseases are expected to overtake infectious diseases, undernutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies as the leading cause of death in Africa. Food environments that aren’t healthy make it harder to get rid of this double burden of malnutrition. There is more and more evidence that a set of policies that change the food environment for consumers and make healthier diets possible work.

Experts in food systems and public health, like the World Health Organization, call them “Best Buys” because they are cost-effective and doable ways to fight the double burden of malnutrition in low- and middle-income countries. Together, these policies are meant to educate and empower consumers, guide and sway them, encourage or discourage them from acting in their food environments, and give them information and power.

To reach these goals, consumers need to be given clear, honest information, healthier foods need to be available in public institutions and markets, and the prices of different foods need to be changed to promote health and economic value in a fair way. More and more countries around the world are putting these policies into place, but so far, not many African countries have.

Responsibilities

The person in charge will have to do the following things:

• Build and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders and project partners.
• Organize, moderate, and run high-level multi-stakeholder meetings on behalf of the project partners.
• Help the project’s Principal Investigator (PI) with a number of high-level administrative and technical tasks.
• Plan and manage all of the project’s activities.
• Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day work of project support staff, including reporting on progress and results.
• Help write academic papers, policy briefs, and research summaries;
• Help spread the word about the project;
• Do other tasks as assigned by the project PI

Needed Qualifications and Experience

• Applicants should have a doctorate or something similar from a school that is recognized for giving degrees. Nutrition, public health, food science, agriculture, and health economics are all interesting fields. A strong candidate with an MPhil, MPH, MA, or MSc will be taken into account.
• A track record of excellence in empirical research, especially research on food systems, agriculture, food production practices, and/or food system environmental sustainability, which is shown in academic outputs in the form of scientific publications.
• Proven ability to come up with original research ideas and do research on your own.
• Ability to communicate research ideas and results and a desire to work with people outside of the academic community.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to track progress, bring up problems and solve them, and document plans to clearly lead a team to success.

Conditions of employment: Fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extending it.

Location: Accra
