The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) (www.cocoainitiative.org) is a multi-stakeholder group that brings together civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industries, and international institutions to engage with governments to combat child and forced labor in the cocoa business.

ICI has created a Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) to help industry partners manage the risk of child labor in their cocoa supply chain responsibly. According to the Ghana Child Labor Monitoring System (GCLMS), the system is built on the presence of Community Facilitators (CF) within cocoa-growing communities who raise awareness about child labor, detect cases, and carry out remedial efforts. Position Description

Full-time position in ICI’s Ghana (Accra) office (Male or Female).

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) is a non-profit organization that seeks to protect the rights of children and adults in West African cocoa-growing communities. The ICI Ghana office is searching for a Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) Field Assistant to help strengthen its staff……

The purpose of this role, which reports to the ICI Supply Chain Manager, is to implement the ICI Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System in order to achieve the ICI objectives for the national office in Ghana……

Primary roles and tasks

….. The incumbent will work at the district level, reporting to the Country Director and reporting directly to the Supply Chain Project Manager.

  • Maintain communication between ICI in Accra, regional stakeholders, and local governments.
  • Ensure that the ICI Foundation’s guidelines and policies are followed consistently.
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate all necessary information from the field to provide regular project progress reporting to the Country Director and Project Manager, as well as the preparation of technical reports.
  • Ensure effective CLMRS setup and roll-out in specified geographical areas, specifically: assist in the selection of Field Officers (FO) as needed.
  • Assist in the training of Field Supervisors and Officers, as well as organizing field-level training logistics as needed.
  • Provide continuing technical support to the partner’s field staff (supervisors and officers), ensuring that their terms of reference are met.
  • Proactively monitor KPIs for the area under his or her control and try to enhance them.
  • Support community-level education about child labor and forced labor.
  • Provide remediation strategy advice and monitor the implementation of remedial efforts.
  • Support the ongoing forced labor experiment that is being piloted in selected communities.
  • Organize logistics for field visits by ICI officials from Accra and Geneva, as well as industry partners.
  • Work on any other related duties that arise.
  • Mission support and other responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning of ICI missions and visits to project communities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager and agreed upon by the Deputy Country Director/Program Coordinator

Required Qualifications or Experience

Essential

  • A university degree in Development Planning/Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or other relevant fields is required, as is experience in the field.
  • 2 years of experience is required.
  • Program formulation and monitoring, report writing, and knowledge documentation are all part of the job.
  • Worked on a rural development project or in the cocoa supply chain.
  • Experience developing partnerships and establishing effective working relationships with partners.
  • Working experience at the community level.
  • The function of representation.
  • Knowledge of the cocoa industry as well as involvement in anti-child labor campaigns.
  • Understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation processes and methods.
  • Understanding of information management software and technologies.
  • Capability to rapidly analyze and integrate information from a variety of sources.

Desirable

  • English communication abilities that are clear and succinct.
  • A good team player who can contribute to a collaborative work atmosphere.
  • Adaptability to new advancements and a strong drive to learn are required.

Languages

  • Written and spoken English fluency Ability to communicate in Twi (and French is preferred)

  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Capability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of actors.
  • Outstanding organizing and planning abilities.
  • Ability to operate alone in remote locations while remaining motivated.
  • Take the initiative.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel.
  • Capability to ride a motorcycle into neighborhoods.
