POSITION: Finance Assistant

Company Profile

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) is a multi-stakeholder group that brings together civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industries, and international organizations to address child and forced labour in the cocoa sector, as well as collaborate with governments.

ICI has created a Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) that enables industry partners to appropriately manage the risk of child labour in the cocoa supply chain. According to the Ghana Child Exploitation Monitoring System (GCLMS), the system is built on the presence of Community Facilitators (CF) in cocoa-growing communities who raise awareness about child exploitation, detect incidents, and carry out rehabilitation efforts. Job Description

A full-time finance assistant position is available in ICI’s Ghana (Accra) office for both male and female applicants.

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) is a non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting the rights of children and adults in West African cocoa-growing communities. To strengthen its workforce, the ICI Ghana office is looking for a Finance Assistant.

The goal of this role, which reports to the Finance Manager, is to assist with the effective and efficient management of financial operations in fulfillment of the ICI’s country office objectives in Ghana.

Primary jobs and responsibilities

  • Accounting, bookkeeping, and maintaining all financial and accounting documentation up to date.
  • Prepare journal vouchers for payables and receivables for inspection by the supervisor.
  • Prepare reconciliations for all bank accounts and aid in resolving any inconsistencies.
  • Ensure the timely liquidation of all advances to staff for missions and other activities.
  • Ensure that all original accounting and banking papers are properly filed and archived.
  • Ensure that vendor checks and funds arising from advance liquidation are promptly deposited in the bank.
  • Maintain a record of withholding taxes and follow up on tax credit certificates.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage the fixed asset tracking system.
  • Mission support and other responsibilities

Other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Finance Manager or requested by the ICI Director of Finance and Support Services.

Required Skill or Experience

Essential

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in an NGO or non-profit context (accounting and financial reporting).
  • Knowledge of accounting software, Sun Systems, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of information management tools and basic IT skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent accounting and bookkeeping skills.
  • Ability to quickly analyze and integrate diverse information from many sources.

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English (and French is desirable).
