The Assistant Inspection manager is liable for ensuring that qualitative and quantitative verification of various commodities/merchandise and associated methods through field inspections, marine surveys, and/or audits, are achieved in accordance with organization concepts, global requirements, accreditation processes, and customer requirements.
- Position: Assistant Inspection manager
- Reports to: Managing Director/Inspection Manager
Responsibilities and Key duties:
General Duties:
- Operational and human resource planning.
- Make sure inspectors complete work at the assigned port
- Ensure inspections employees are provided with the necessary equipment, which includes protection equipment
- Supervise daily inspection work inspectors/surveyors/checkers, make sure techniques, work instructions, and customer requests are accompanied and carried out successfully.
- Make sure there is a secure working environment for inspectors/surveyors/checkers.
- Make sure inspectors/surveyors/checkers comply with the laid-down code of ethics
- Make sure that inspectors’/surveyors reports are reported in an agreed format and a stipulated time.
- Write monthly reviews on the warehouse, vessel discharge/loading
- Aid the HR department with recruitment of inspectors/surveyors/checkers
- Supervise day-to-day work in the port when required
- Carry out inspection/surveyor activities when important.
- Choose abled laboratories and arrange to deliver samples for analysis when necessary.
- Check the sheet/payroll of inspectors/surveyors
- Perform annual overall performance appraisals of inspectors/surveyors/checkers.
- Make proposals to improve the company’s service delivery.
- Write monthly status reports for MD
- Report suspected fraud or mistakes made to Managing Director.
Technical Duties of Assistant Inspection manager
- Assist in setting up and coping with the ISO17020 management system
- Help write procedures according to ISO17020 and educate auditors/back office consequently
- Meet requirements of ISO17020 once operational
- Make sure inspection techniques meet international requirements (GAFTA, FOSFA, ISO17020)
- Approve procedures, work instructions, working forms
- Decide on pieces of training inspectors/surveyors/checkers may need and provide the needed assistance for them to be trained.
- Train workers to ensure employee competencies and quality service delivery
- Inspection certificates and review contracts of employees when there is the need to do so.
Commercial
- Help Managing Director with sales and marketing of inspection service
- Prepare quotation/calculations for inspection services
- Talk with clients to get informed about their needs

Education & Professional Background:
- Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
- Interested candidates must have an: Understanding of Inspection service, commercial/business, commodities, which include but are not restricted to Soya Bean Meal/ Beans, Rice, Wheat, Corn, Cocoa among others.
- The expertise of legal requirements and legal system, shipping practice, risk assessment safety compliance, ISO9001, the expertise in commodity inspection service, experience at the management level will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of ISO17020 is desirable
