The Hubert Humphrey has opened its online admission portal for the 2023/2024 cohorts. The portals are open till 1st October 2022. The Hubert Humphrey fellowship is a yearly non-degree program for professionals who want to enhance their leadership skills through a collective exchange of ideas and knowledge and addressing issues that are common in the US and the home countries of other fellows.

The fellowship provides opportunities for professional development by attending conferences,  building your network,  some university courses, and practical work. The fellowship also builds expertise in various fields that are important in the advancement of societal and institutional capacity.

Fellows who enroll in this program are able to pursue both their personal goals and work closely with other Humphrey fellows. The program also encourages fellows to learn more about American culture and networking with their peers.

Eligible Fields of Study

Firstly, Human and Institutional Capacity:

• Economic Development
• Finance & Banking
• Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
• Technology Policy and Management
• Human Resource Management

Also, Rights and Freedoms:

• Communications and Journalism

• Freedom Law and Human Rights
• Trafficking in Persons Policy & Prevention

Besides the above, Sustainable Lands:

• Agricultural and Rural Development

Humphrey fellowship eligibility criteria :

These are the requirements to meet if you want to apply for the Humphrey fellowship program.

• To begin with, applicants should have a minimum of five years of professional experience.
• Secondly, applicants should be an undergraduate with a bachelor’s degree
• Thirdly, applicants should exhibit qualities of their leadership skills.
• Also, applicants should have a record that shows their commitment to public service in the community
• Finally, applicants should not have had any experience in the United States

What the scholarship covers

• Firstly, the fellowship provides funding for the payment of tuition at assigned host campus.
• It also caters to the living expenses of the fellow and that includes a one-time settling-in allowance.
• Furthermore, Health insurance
• Additionally, Travel expenses from your host country to the US and other domestic to events you are required to attend.
• Moreover, A book allowance
• Last but not least, Training for those who cannot communicate effectively in English
• Lastly, A professional allowance for activities such as conferences, field trips, and professional visits.

Application procedure for the Humphrey fellowship

Applicants are to note that the application goes through five stages before fellows are selected.

• The first is National screening. 

US embassies in various countries review the application submitted for the Humphrey fellowship program. Applicants that satisfy the requirements are called for an interview.  Those who excel in the interview will have their applications forwarded to the Institute of International Education In Washington DC for further consideration.

The next stage is screening by the Institute of International Education In Washington DC.

They review the submitted applications to see if the applicants meet the eligibility criteria after which they come together with the regional Candidate Review Committee (CRC) to examine the applications.
