GFD is looking for experienced, self-motivated people to lead this new and ambitious project. This is why the following job is open: Finance and Grant Officer

Role profile

The person in this post will report to the Finance Manager, but they will also have a working relationship with the Programmes Manager of GFD. Their job is to make sure that agreed-upon financial processes (such as internal and donor-related ones) are carried out, especially for the We Can Work program.

The person in this job will make the annual financial plan for the program. This will be done in coordination with the accounting team and based on a good understanding of the work plan and activities.

The person in this job will be in charge of monitoring and financial analysis, as well as guiding the We Can Work program with the help of a team. They will also help make sure the quality of the data meets international, accounting, and donor standards.

The job will also make sure that there is strong collaboration and alignment, with a focus on financial data, such as reports from the program team, management team, and donors. Lastly, the role adds to Risk Management and will keep the organization up to date on any risks that will affect the organization and program implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Implementation of agreed financial processes and systems
  • Make sure that the agreed-upon internal financial processes and financial processes for the programs, especially We Can Work, are put into place.
  • Make sure that the ways you handle things are in line with accounting standards.
  • Using the agreed-upon organization methods and making sure they are followed.
Ensures collaboration with accounting & programmes
  • In line with the program unit, plan activities, and finances at the same time.
  • Give feedback to the program team about how projects are going, help steer grants and projects, and make sure there is a good flow of information between the program team and the financial team.
  • Help the finance team with audits of the organization’s finances and other issues that cut across accounting and control.
Conducts financial planning, monitoring and analysis
  • Make sure that the agreed-upon steps for financial planning are followed.
  • Make sure to keep an eye on the budget for the event and how much it actually costs.
  • Check on the cash flow of grants that fall under their area of duty.
  • Make sure that the information about the cash transactions is accurate.
  • Review the reports from your partners and give feedback.
Financial reporting
  • Prepare reports for donors according to what they want.
  • Prepare donor checks.

Ensuring internal & external compliance on financial aspects

  • Make sure that the source contracts, including sub-grants for partners, are followed financially.
  • Set up processes and structures to make sure people follow the rules.
  • In charge of the financial part of the partner evaluation.
  • In charge of making sure that partners’ business skills are improved.
  • Make sure that both country office programs and implementing partners follow the rules set by donors and worldwide standards for reporting when it comes to money.

Skills or Experience Needed

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree is needed in accounting, finance, or a related field. It’s better to have more qualifications, like a CPA, ACCA, CA, or CIMA license.
  • 4–7 years of work experience in a professional setting, with some knowledge or experience in non-profits, grant-making, or project management systems.
  • Knowledge of costs and how to handle a budget
  • Skills in financial or business management and research, and experience running big projects
  • They know how to use computers and have a lot of experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as financial software tools.
  • Best methods for post-award compliance should be known.
  • Good relationship skills.
  • Able to clearly explain policies, processes, rules, and regulations
