POSITION: Commercial Director
Job Description
- The Commercial Director will promote and enhance commercial activity among FTA members to generate money and lead to sustainable growth and improved livelihoods in Africa.
- As a member of the Leadership Team, the Commercial Director will drive FTA’s functional efforts to maximize Fairtrade sales for our members and support them in extracting more value from their respective supply chains.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing cross-functional strategies to support FTA members’ commercial operations on the ground and to collaborate with other areas of the Fairtrade International system to maximize the value captured for our farmers and workers.
Required Qualifications or Experience
Education
- The ideal candidate will have a university degree as well as a specialty in commerce, marketing, or sales.
Relevant Work Experience
- The ideal applicant will have worked in a senior commercial role at a well-known company and will have a demonstrated track record of success, with at least seven years of senior-level commercial management experience with a respected firm.
- Has solid business and commercial strategy experience that will be useful in Africa.
- Experience in sales and/or marketing, as well as managing relationships with important stakeholders and clients, is required.
- Proven commercial and value chain experience in both established and developing markets, spanning many nations and cultures.
- Extensive knowledge of market research methods and analysis.
- A large network of relevant commercial contacts in African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries.
- Experience delivering great marketing campaigns, managing media, and/or branding, as well as implementing marketing plans with measurable results.
- The ability to create good working connections across functional areas, as well as solid expertise in leading change management programs, will be required.
- The ability to influence and develop consensus with member organizations, as well as impact Fairtrade’s strategic and policy direction and decisions.
- Capability to raise funds
- Proven budget management and operational planning experience.
- Creative, imaginative, proactive, and organizational abilities
- Experience establishing directorate systems and structures.
