Job Description:
The Originator is responsible for assisting the RSO by delivering deal origination and execution, including agreements and complex structured transactions, providing deal assurance, driving new and existing business growth, leveraging BP’s customer base, cross-bench offerings, and structured products, and building strategic relationships to maximize value.
The function is responsible for guiding commercial transactions from inception to completion, including negotiation, internal approval, contract execution, and operationalization. The individual must have a demonstrated track record of deal execution, as well as good multi-tasking and commercial acumen, and be capable of dealing with a wide range of commercial difficulties and deal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
The role is responsible for leading commercial transactions from inception to completion, including negotiation, internal approval, contract execution, and operationalization. The individual must have an extensive external regional network, a proven track record of deal execution, great multi-tasking abilities, proven commercial acumen, and in-depth knowledge of West African Oil and Gas, and be capable of dealing with a wide range of commercial challenges and deal difficulties. Key responsibilities include:
Management of counterparties.
- Leadership in commercial transaction sourcing, origination, and delivery, demonstrating quick decision-making, commercial insights, and deal structuring, as well as a solid understanding of finance.
- Maintaining Origination hoppers for WAF possibilities
- In collaboration with the CD team, support and/or lead the deal approval process for own transactions.
- Support the relationship to functions (legal, compliance, finance, tax, and planning) in order to address any deal difficulties and resolve barriers.
- Provide and distribute market intelligence and information flows to trading floors.
- The ideal candidate would have experience covering the West African region, with a strong emphasis on Ghana. Candidates with a more limited geographical concentration may be considered.
- Ensure that the Code of Conduct is followed.
- Assure compliance with the legal and regulatory framework in which the origination business operates.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or engineering is desirable.
Required experience and qualifications:
- The candidate is expected to work with little supervision and to network with team members independently. The role provides an exceptional opportunity to lead the crude oil, Gasoil, Jet, base oil, LPG, and gasoline business, build leadership and strategic thinking abilities, and expand networks between commercial and technical disciplines.
- A successful track record of physical origination, deal structure, and execution.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as a numerate degree of financial comprehension.
- Enough knowledge of and exposure to hydrocarbon value, commodities trade, and freight economics
- Strong established commercial and leadership skills, as well as a strong delivery focus, are required, as is a high degree of energy and passion.
- Outstanding writing and oral communication abilities.
- Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to quickly react to changing conditions are required.
- Understanding of business, including financial decision-making and planning, financial statement analysis, and financial modeling.
- Experience and a proven track record of commercial delivery
- Intercultural awareness is also vital, as is the ability to deal with quick changes in the work environment.
Other necessary skills and expertise include:
- A high level of expertise in financial structuring, commercial business growth in the oil and gas industry, trade finance, and trading.
- Energetic, self-starter, and capable of taking ideas and running with them without excessive supervision.
- Capability to excite and lead a small team of professionals, as well as create internal networks, in order to deliver on trading bench plans.
- Collaborate to improve effectiveness, and share ideas and triumphs.
Competencies:
- Commercial acumen and determination are essential.
- Individuals must be able to work in teams, influence others, network, and interact with people at all levels and across organizations.
- Prior experience in the oil and gas industry, origination, business development in the oil and gas industry, trading, refining commercial operations, refinery planning and optimization, and supply.
- External expertise in investment banking, trade finance or structuring, or management consulting is preferred.
