Americares‘ Collaboration with Women’s Health and Wealth in Ghana:
Americares collaborates with Women’s Health to Wealth in the Ashanti and Bono regions of Ghana to operate 50 Girl’s Clubs. Gender-based violence has surfaced as a crucial issue, so Americares is looking for an external consultant content specialist to help WHW increase its involvement with key stakeholders and the community in tackling GBV through the Girls’ Club program.
Consultancy deliverables:
The outputs from the consultant are as follows:
- Tools for assessing facilitators’ and health staff’s competency in managing reported GBV cases.
- Share a GBV PowerPoint presentation with facilitators and students to assist them grasp the concepts of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, as well as to enable teachers to respond correctly to situations of abuse and students to report any cases of abuse to appropriate agencies.
- Identify context-specific posters for distribution in schools and referral health institutions.
- Create important indicators to help WHW analyse the roles of key players from all agencies and organizations involved in preventing sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls in the districts.
- The consultant will perform desk research and virtual data collecting, including interviews with important community stakeholders and local organizations in Kumasi, Ahafo Ano South West, and Dormaa East, to evaluate previously provided indicators. A report outlining the processes and approaches to be used in the manual will be required as a deliverable.
- Provide a report with a clear pathway for girls who have been victims of GBV to ensure sufficient physical and mental health management, as well as avenues to seek legal retribution.
- A report was presented to WHW and Americares providing recommendations for the project’s next phase.
Qualifications:
- Experience with the global GBV landscape, notably in Anglophone West Africa
- Capable of assessing and analysing facilitators’ and health staff’s competency in managing GBV cases.
- Skilled in developing and implementing GBV training, as well as creating plans for community sensitization and engagement in GBV work.
- Demonstrates ownership and the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrates teamwork and the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, including community and government partners.
- Delivers results.
- Report writing requires strong written and vocal communication abilities in English.
