Drug Innovation Group (DIG) Invites Job Applications

The Drug Innovation Group (DIG) of the University of Ghana (UG) is a medicinal chemistry group. The DIG staff and laboratories are housed at the Frank Tortor Building, which is part of the Department of Chemistry. Under the guidelines of the Grand Challenges African Drug Discovery Accelerator (GC-ADDA) program, which receives funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and LifeArc and works with eight (8) African institutions and a number of foreign collaborators, DIG is a component of a fully integrated malaria drug discovery effort.

DIG is looking for qualified and experienced candidates on a one-year fixed contract that can be extended for another two years.

1. Postdoctoral fellow

Qualifications and Experience Required

The successful candidate:

  • Must hold a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry within the last 5 years.
  • Must be capable of performing autonomous organic synthesis.
  • Be prepared to supervise MSc and PhD students.
  • You must be willing to follow the University’s authorized postdoctoral policies, procedures, and practices.

2. Project Manager

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A research-based master’s degree in a scientific subject, as well as three years of project management experience in a translational research context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both scientific and non-scientific personnel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer, organizational, and time management abilities
  • A highly motivated team player with the ability to operate alone when necessary.
