DIRECTOR OF RADIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH INSTITUTE AT GHANA ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION

The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), a public service organisation established by an Act of Parliament, invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians for the following positions:

JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR, RADIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH INSTITUTE (RAMSRI)

The Institute

Established in January, 2009 as an Institute of the GALC, RAMSRI performs its main functions through five (5) Scientific/Technical Centres under its jurisdiction, in collaboration with National Research Institutions, University & Hospital Departments, Departments and Agencies under Ministries and International Institutions, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna-Austria and the Stellenbosch University, Cape Town-South

The Position

Reporting to the Director-General, the Director is appointed as the Executive Head of the Institute by the GABC and charged with responsibility for directing the administrative, scientific, technical and commercial functions of the Institute

The Person

  • Must not be more than fifty-five (55) years old at the time of appointment.
  • Must be a distinguished scholar and researcher of local and/or international repute in the field of nuclear sciences, their applications and related technologies.
  • Must have proven organisational and leadership skills.
  • Must have experience in fundraising and resource mobilisation
  • Must have excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to manage and/or control crisis

Qualifications

  • A higher degree (PhD), DSC or DPhil) in Nuclear Sciences.
  • A minimum rank of Principal Research Scientist/Associate Professor
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience at Senior Management Level in a Research Institution or University.

Duties/Key responsibilities

  • Firstly, Work closely with the Director-General in the formulation and implementation of policies.
  • Secondly, Manage, coordinate and steer relevant nuclear research programmes, projects and activities at local and international levels as may be directed by the Director General,
  • Thirdly, Help develop expertise in the field of nuclear, radiological and medical sciences.
  • Moreover, Initiate new research proposals in accordance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (TATA) approved Country Programme Framework for Ghana, and co-ordinate research, scientific, technical and commercial activities at the Institute.
  • Additionally, Enhance the application of nuclear and radiological sciences in healthcare delivery and in the field of education and training for socio-economic development.
  • Furthermore, Set the priority goals of research activities within the institutein line with the policies of the GAEC.
  • Then, Drive the research and technical operations of the Instituteincluding commercialisation of its research outputs.
  • Also, Develop and implement the appropriate strategies andsystems for effective co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation of research works within the Institute.
  • Afterwards, Ensure a conducive working environment for the publication of the Institute’s research outputs.
  • Last but not least, Ensure the availability of funds for research purposes at theInstitute, and
  • Finally, Any other job that may be assigned by the Director General

  • Nine (9) copies of application forms per applicant may be obtained from the GAEC Cash Office at a fee of GHc 500.00.
  • A written application including detailed curriculum vitae of the applicant with names and addresses of three referees and a two (2) page vision statement together with the completed 5 copies of the application forms, should be lodged either in person or through a reliable courier service, with the Director General, GAEC, Kwabenya Accra in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
