POSITION: Gender Specialist

Who You Are 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a comparable discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, and safeguarding, ideally in agriculture, finance, or development initiatives.
  • Experience in creating gender strategies and facilitating training on gender and inclusion.
  • Experience collaborating with donor-supported initiatives and interacting with various stakeholders, such as financial entities, business development service providers, and community groups.
  • Solid understanding of gender-responsive methodologies, instruments, and structures.
  • Excellent at establishing and nurturing connections with coworkers and clients within the industry and/or area.
  • Eager to engage in different kinds of tasks, even lacking previous experience or direct oversight.
  • Outstanding presentation abilities: capacity to convey information clearly and efficiently to varied audiences.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and capability to produce high-quality results under time limitations.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and their implementation

Main Duties

  • Create and execute a thorough gender strategy for the BIA program in partnership with Banks and BDS providers, including definitive strategies to assist young women in accessing the program’s interventions.
  • Educate program staff, partner banks, and BDS providers on gender inclusivity and protection measures.
  • Offer continuous technical support to program personnel, partner banks, and BDS providers for executing gender-transformative strategies aimed at fulfilling the program’s goals.
  • Act as the central point for the program’s protection efforts, ensuring adherence to policies that safeguard minority groups such as women, youth, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Work together with the MEL team to monitor advancements in gender-specific results and communicate insights with program stakeholders.
  • Assist in creating knowledge resources (such as case studies, lessons-learned reports, etc.) to record and disseminate essential insights from the BIA program.
  • Assist in donor reports and presentations by emphasizing gender-specific accomplishments and obstacles.
  • Believe you possess the necessary qualities, but uncertain if you meet all the criteria? Studies indicate that men tend to apply for positions when they fulfill about 60% of the qualifications, whereas women generally apply only if they satisfy all the criteria.
