Canada Visa Operations in India to Return to Normal by 2024 | IRCC Update

By early next year, IRCC anticipates that visa operations for India will resume as usual. The primary immigration agency in Canada, the IRCC, stated on October 23 that it anticipates that the recent withdrawal of diplomats would have no effect on the processing of Indian visas and that things will resume as usual in early 2024.

Senior representatives of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have stated that over the next two months, the staff decrease in India is anticipated to result in a backlog of 17,500 final decisions throughout the nation’s global immigration system.

But by early 2024, the administration aims to resume regular processing, according to officials cited by CIC News. As immigration personnel removed from India re-establishes and resume employment in Canada and the Philippines, this is feasibly accomplished.

Furthermore, as soon as the security situation improves, External Affairs Minister Sjer suggested on Sunday that the Visa Services, which were halted last month due to a diplomatic channel between the two countries, would resume. He stated that because it was no longer safe for our diplomats to travel to Canada to give visas, India ceased giving visas there.

Canada announced last week that it was withdrawing 41 of its ambassadors from India, citing the country’s insistence that it sought diplomatic parity and that only 21 of them will remain in India going forward. The IRCC had previously released a statement stating that operations would be affected and client service would be compromised as a result of its workforce in India being reduced from 27 to only five individuals.

Latest IRCC Staffing in India

The IRCC stated that its remaining employees in India will concentrate on tasks that necessitate an in-country presence, such as printing risk assessments, expediting visa processing, and managing important Partners including clinics that provide immigration medical examinations, panel physicians, and visa application facilities.

The remaining tasks and employees will be redistributed throughout the Global Processing Network of the IRCC. According to the data, out of the approximately 437,000 new permanent residents that Canada accepted, over 118,000 Indians became permanent residents in 2022. This is a 27% increase. More than 226,000 Indian international students studied in the country last year, while approximately 60,000 Indians obtained Canadian citizenship in 2022.

Further Details

Candidates for Express Entry no longer need to have an initial medical examination as of June 2023. Candidates for Express Entry no longer need to undergo an upfront immigration medical examination before submitting their application to the IRCC for permanent residence as of October 1st of this year. Exams are still necessary, although applicants can supply a blank document using the Express Entry profile Builder’s upload section.

Additional instructions about your medical exam will be sent by IRCC at a later time. It is not necessary to do a second IME if the applicant has already completed one as part of an earlier IRCC application or if they are currently residents of Canada.

What is Express Entry?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class are managed using the application management system Express Entry. For these programs, the Comprehensive Ranking System is used to assess candidates. Candidates are ranked by the algorithm according to their human capital characteristics, which include age, linguistic proficiency, employment history, profession, and education.

Every attribute is given a number, which when added together brings the total score to a maximum of 1,200. Candidates hardly ever receive scores this high, and depending on the type of draw, the majority of minimum CRS cut-off scores fall between 350 and 550. The individuals most likely to be invited to apply to the IRCC for permanent resident status are those with the highest scores.

What is Category-Based Selection

The IRCC introduced draw categories earlier this year wherein the CRS score is not the primary determining criterion for the issuance of ITAs. According to a new rule enacted in June 2022, the immigration minister has the power to invite applicants who can boost Canada’s economy or advance the French language outside of the country.

As a result, the IRCC revealed six additional draw categories in May of last year for Express Entry applicants who either had extensive French language proficiency or had job experience in;

  • Healthcare
  • STEM professions
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and Agri-food

Through category-based selection drawings, Canada has invited candidates ten times since June, for a total of over 10,000 invites. The express entry pool already contained all of the candidates.

Canada is reiterating its status as a hospitable and inclusive country as it issues invites to PNP candidates. These attractions support Canada’s economic growth and diversity in addition to providing opportunities for skilled professionals. The path ahead for people hoping to settle in Canada is full of opportunity and promise, highlighting the country’s continuous dedication to the enrichment of the global talent pool and workforce.
