ROLE: Senior Journalist (Video Producer-West Africa)
The BBC World Service is undergoing a major strategy review in order to transition to a digital-first business that produces distinctive and original programming.
In accordance with this plan, we are developing digital production hubs to produce high-impact, original journalism for our global audiences.
We are searching for a competent and driven video producer based in Ghana to pitch, develop concepts, deploy, produce, and revert digital video content individually or cooperatively with others.
This position will work alongside digital, production, and journalism positions to create new, inventive, and engaging stories for a variety of media.
Accountabilities And Responsibilities
- This function is largely responsible for initiating, gathering, and producing content for news, current affairs, and general programming for digital platforms. You will be expected to self-shoot and edit whole packages for use across numerous platforms on a regular basis.
- Maintain accurate and useful information while striving for innovative and imaginative output, and adhere to the highest video production standards.
- As needed, capture video interviews and other types of original content and collaborate with graphics and visual journalism teams to create fresh and unique sequences.
- Use analytics to guide video narrative selection and ensure material is delivered in the appropriate format(s).
Knowledge, abilities, training, and experience
- Bilingual language skills are preferred. A thorough command and understanding of a key World Service regional language as the first (or equivalent) language, as well as complete comprehension of written and spoken English, and the capacity to communicate effectively
- Capability to create engaging digital material on difficult political and social topics that will appeal to African and global audiences, particularly women and young people.
- Experience with digital newsgathering, taping, and filing video from the field, and a demonstrated ability to use editing and production tools confidently as needed.
- An understanding of outside broadcast strategies would be advantageous.
- An excellent camera presence and knowledge of social media life would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of data analytics and expertise in using it to design content and fulfill the demands of various audience groups.
- Experience encouraging, guiding, and aiding colleagues who are new to video and digital.
