About the company
The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana) is a peacebuilding organization that doesn’t make money (NGO). It is a civil society organization with the goal of preventing, resolving, and transforming violent conflicts through the coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national government institutions, and people actively working to build peace in Ghana.
This is done to avoid duplicating efforts and get the most out of resources for better responses to conflict situations. The group wants to help Ghanaian communities build a culture of nonviolence, justice, peace, and social reconciliation that will last.
Job Description
WANEP is a sub-regional non-governmental organization in West Africa. Its goal is to help civil society peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa create ways to work together. It has offices in 15 countries in West Africa. These offices are called National Network Offices. The Ghana office, which has its National Secretariat in Tamale, is looking for an experienced person to fill the position of Accounts Assistant. The person who gets the job will be based in Tamale and make occasional trips to project districts in northern Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
- Check the financial records to make sure they are complete and correct.
- Review the day-to-day financial transactions and add them to the right ledgers in the books of accounts.
- Staff advances should be looked at, managed, and matched up on a regular basis.
- Check, confirm, and balance the records and balances of accounts receivable and payable.
- Help put together the annual budget and annual accounts.
- All records of inventories should be kept, managed, and kept up to date.
- Perform a bank transaction reconciliation.
- Help program teams manage their budgets and keep an eye on them.
- Office petty cash needs to be managed and kept track of in the right way.
- Check travel advances to make sure they are correct and full before approving them.
- Review float retirements to make sure they are correct and full before approving them.
- Keep track of and pay the office bills on time.
- Help with the preparation and payment of all legal requirements.
- Take on any other tasks that the team leader for finance and administration gives you.
Skills or Experience Needed
- At least two years’ worth of work experience in accounting
- Have at least a Higher National Diploma or a first degree in accounting from an institution that is recognized.
- Those who want to apply must be at least 25 years old.
- Those who want to apply must know how to use Tally or QuickBooks Accounting software.
- Willing and able to work extra hours and travel at short notice.
- You should be able to speak and write English well.
- Be aware of other cultures and conflicts, and be a good team player.
