New Employment pportunity at VisionSpring
POSITION: Editorial Associate
Are you ready to use your writing and communication talents to help a pioneering social enterprise change the lives of millions of low-income consumers, allowing them to work, learn, remain safe, and care for their families?
VisionSpring is looking for a convincing and collaborative communications associate to help convey and amplify our narrative. The associate will help us create and develop content for our audiences, both directly and through collaboration with coworkers and freelancers as needed. Current and potential individual donors, institutional donors such as foundations, governments, businesses, venture philanthropists, media outlets, partners, and other key players are among the target audiences. The person in this position will assist VisionSpring’s communications activities, which include public relations, reports, social media, website copywriting, and ad hoc communications.
As VisionSpring expands its marketing and communications capacity globally, the associate collaborates closely with internal stakeholder groups such as marketing and development teams, as well as program and sales teams, in eight key markets—Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zambia—as well as other emerging and frontier markets. This role reports to the global manager of communications.
About You
- You are deeply interested in social enterprise concepts, field operations, and the experiences of partners and customers. That qualifies you as an extraordinary organizational ambassador.
- You’re a fantastic writer and storyteller. You enjoy working personally with internal stakeholders from different time zones to uncover the vivid nuances that make your story engaging, even if it means starting early some mornings.
- You shine when interacting with internal and external organizational stakeholders, and your comments elicit enthusiasm for what we can accomplish together.
- You have a keen eye for design and like creating a distinctive message that enables mission-driven organizations to do well even better.
- You enjoy structuring things, have outstanding attention and follow-through, and prioritize before taking action.
- You are adaptable and thrive in situations where every day is unique.
About us.
- As a social enterprise, social change is our primary motivator. Our emphasis on sales and revenue targets serves and advances our mission objective: to improve functioning, productivity, and income generating capacity for our low-income customers by correcting refractive error using eyeglass lenses.
- VisionSpring is a social enterprise that promotes the use of eyeglasses in emerging and frontier markets. A clear vision opens up prospects for improved learning, work, safety, civic involvement, and quality of life.
- We are attempting to address the structural failure of an optical market that has failed to provide eyeglasses, a 700-year-old technology, to nearly a billion consumers in need of vision correction, the majority of whom live on less than $4 per day.
- We serve low-income consumers as customers, rather than beneficiaries. Our clients demand a high-quality product at an accessible price, and they are willing to spend their limited discretionary budget on the immediate and tangible benefits of vision correction.
- By selling spectacles, we generate new demand and establish a sustainable market.
- Selling new eyeglasses allows us to help four times as many individuals per dollar invested as donating recycled ones. To efficiently scale, we must deliver each additional unit at a lower cost.
- We base our operations on both sales KPIs and social impact measures. To accomplish our goals, we employ a variety of organizational structures and methods.
- We believe in growing our impact, not our organization. We are a small group of people who work hard.
What will you do?
Generally
- Master writing with the VisionSpring “voice,” and get the ability to share our narrative to a wide range of audiences.
- Collaborate internationally with key internal stakeholders, such as development, sales, programs, and employee relations teams, to translate and reflect significant impact stories in order to optimize sales, services, events, conferences, and overall business growth.
- Seize opportunities to teach coworkers how to communicate using the VisionSpring voice.
- Maintain VisionSpring’s brand across all content, including the appropriate usage of the logo, a consistent look and feel, and messaging.
- Create impact stories for PR, social, donor, and B2B audiences by collaborating with colleagues in VisionSpring’s key markets to gather customer stories from the field, as well as developing narratives with organizational leaders that highlight the global success and impact of VisionSpring initiatives.
Internal and External Communications
- Act as an internal “investigative reporter” to gather tales from our team for use in public relations, social media, newsletters, donor reporting websites, and so on.
- Monitor and respond to VisionSpring’s audience on social media.
- Assist in creating content marketing and program text to support market messaging, vision screening, and event communications, as well as program or market development materials.
- Contribute and organize content to help keep the website up to date.
