POSITION: Geological Technician

About This Role:
To lead the sample crews in the measurement and analysis of data collected during sampling activities.
In this role, you will
Geological Sampling
- Supervise samplers as they undertake various daily sampling activities (such as blast holes, trenches, and grabs).
- Operate light vehicles for sampling duties and a Ditch Witch machine to cut sample trenches.
- Ensure that sampling pegs are preserved in their proper placements and labelled for convenient post-drill pick-up by survey.
- Oversee sample sorting and submission in the lab.
- Ensure that sample bag numbering is done appropriately to improve the accuracy of OC dig block grade estimates.
- Ensure that samples are prioritized for the lab as needed.
- Perform limited geotechnical logging.
- Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of sample instruments and equipment.
- Stocktaking and aiding with the ordering of sampling consumables and other logistics for use in ore control.
- Ensure that the goods required by samplers are transported to the pit.
- During reserve conversion drilling, maintain the drill site by installing drainage, fencing, and a sump.
Grade Control Geologist Support
- Assist the Grade Control Geologist with day-to-day in-pit geological tasks (e.g., ore marking, blast hole logging, blast movement installation and monitoring, etc.).
Data Collection and Quality Control
- Ensure that all sampling data is recorded on the sample submission form.
- Assist with the collection of all geological field data (core drilling, RC drilling, blast hole, density, grab samples, mapping, moisture content, etc.).
Environmental, Health, and Safety Management
- Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of all employees under his or her direction.
- Provide hands-on help during operational activities, while also ensuring that safe work procedures are followed.
- Follow and support others in carrying out operations in accordance with Newmont’s environmental, health, and safety values.
Staff Supervision
- Ensure that the Samplers perform all given duties on a shift.
- Maintain effective communication throughout the sampling team.
Your Training, Skills, and Experience Checklist
Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):
- Senior High School Certificate, or West African Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE).
Additional Knowledge
- Prior knowledge of raw materials, production methods, quality control, expenses, and other techniques for increasing sample output is advantageous.
Experience
- A minimum of two to three years of experience in mine production or geology.
Technical Skills
- Strong computer literacy skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with coordination and delegation.
- Extensive experience monitoring and managing information.

- The position is at the Ahafo North mine. The physical demands and work environment features listed here are representative of those that an employee must meet in order to properly perform fundamental job responsibilities.
- The profession requires specific vision qualities such as close vision, distant vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, and the capacity to focus.
- Physical demands: While performing job activities, the employee must sit at a desk for extended periods of time, climb stairs, walk, and stand.
- Work Environment: The field environment is quiet. Occasional exposure to noise, odours, high temperatures, moving machinery, hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces, and extreme weather.
- Protective Equipment (PPE): Work requires necessary PPE such as a helmet, goggles, high visibility clothes, safety harness, ear plugs, and dust mask, depending on the working conditions.
