ROLE: Medical Officer (Reproductive Maternal Newborn & CAH)

Duties

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate and monitor lobbying in assigned countries to prioritize RMNCAHA and Healthy Aging in member nations’ development agendas for improved domestic resource allocation;
  • As part of monitoring the implementation of key MNH and Healthy Ageing interventions and KPIs in the sub Region and supporting Member States to set up an MPDSR system, advise countries to institutionalize MPDSR and document causes of maternal, perinatal, and neonatal deaths and respond appropriately.
  • As part of supporting countries to respond to humanitarian and public health emergencies, the incumbent will play a critical role in integrating RMNCAHA and Healthy Ageing into emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Replace and back up others in his/her area of competence.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A medical degree and a post-graduate degree in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, or public health are required.
  • Management, leadership, or planning training is preferred.

Experience

  • Essential: At least seven years of national and/or international experience planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, and healthy aging programs in resource-limited countries.
  • Desirable: Field experience plus negotiation, relationship development, and coordinated synergies and methods. Intergovernmental or UN experience.

Skills

  • Leadership, management, and organizational skills with the capacity to collaborate with various teams and partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience in policy formation, strategic planning, guidelines development, and reporting in maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health.
