US Government Work-From-Home Jobs 2024 | Top 5 Options

Did you know that you don’t always need to be present in person to work for the federal government of the United States? Better yet, you don’t need to reside close to the country’s capital to land a government job and enjoy all of the benefits that come with it.

Although this may shock some, the government has long understood the advantages of remote work—even before the pandemic sped up the growth of these jobs. In actuality, a government worker first used the phrase “telecommuting” in the 1970s.

This covers retirement savings accounts, paid holidays, federal student loan repayment, and competitive base salary. Federal employees have access to 200 health insurance plans with no enrollment waiting period; also, federal agencies usually pay between 70% and 75% of medical expenses.

3. Alternative work schedules

Would you rather work after hours than from 9 to 5? Because of the government-provided alternate work schedules, that is also an option. Compressed work schedules and flexible work schedules are the two primary varieties. Compressed schedules let you work 40 hours over four days rather than five, while flexible schedules let you design your unique plan that adds up to 40 hours per week.

4. Joint Employment

The ability to “job share” is yet another special benefit of working for the government. Interpretation? Some jobs can be shared with someone if you’re seeking part-time work; for example, you two could work 20 hours a week or two and a half days. Among those working for the government who have jobs, 72.4% are women.

It’s also important to note that government positions are renowned for being safe and steady. In contrast to their counterparts in the private sector, government employees typically have more years of service under their belt.

Where to Find Work-from-Home Government Jobs

Are you prepared to discover the ideal government position? The best place to start is with USAJOBS.gov, the official government job board. It enables you to focus your search based on the department, job title, agency, or occupation that interests you. Additionally, you can use the location search bar to put “remote”; at the moment, nearly 400 remote jobs are offered.

“Almost anyone looking for remote work can probably find a position in the government depending on their qualifications,” says Stefan Campbell, the creator of The Small Business Blog. “There are hundreds of remote job opportunities available at any given time if you conduct a quick search on most job search sites like Indeed, CareerBuilder, and FlexJobs.”

According to Campbell, the only drawback is the clearance needed to work for the federal government. He states, “As you can probably imagine, working for the government involves more considerations than working in the public sector when it comes to background checks and other inquiries into work, credit, and criminal history.”

1. The U.S. Census Bureau

The U.S. Census Bureau, a division of the Department of Commerce in the United States, gathers a vast array of information about the population and economy of the country for use in making important decisions. Field representatives employed by the Census Bureau to gather social and economic data on their local areas are one method used to get this data.

This is a part-time position that usually allows you to choose your hours and work from home on certain tasks like scheduling appointments and making phone calls. You will be interviewing people at their homes for most of the assignment, so it’s an opportunity to work autonomously and meet a variety of people in your region.

2. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

To work with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), you don’t even need to leave your house or travel to space! The agency claims to hire between 500 and 1100 new team members annually on their website. NASA has received numerous accolades for its work environment, including being chosen by The Partnership for Public Service as the best place to work in the federal government and Forbes as one of America’s Best Large Employers.

3. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

There are few things more fulfilling than ensuring the safety of the country. That is the primary goal of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)! On their website, it states that “this requires the hard work of more than 260,000 employees in jobs that range from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector, from aviation and border security to emergency response.”

4. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The public’s health in America is the reason behind the establishment of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 5. The Department of Energy (DOE)
