Founded in 1920 on the Yale campus, the University of New Haven is a private, coeducational institution. U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review have recognized it for its academic excellence. About 8,800 students from all over the world attend this international institution, which is located in the seaside community of West Haven, midway between New York City and Boston. Requirements for Scholarship Qualifications
If you’re planning to graduate from high school at the end of the 2023–2024 academic year, you’re a first-year applicant for the Fall 2024 start term.
Fall Deadlines for Applications

- First Alert: December 15
- Second Early Measure: February 15
- *Any applications submitted following February 15th Deadline for Priority: March 1.
What is an obligatory admission decision?
A: You should choose us first. You will enroll at the University of New Haven after being accepted.
What is early action, please?
A: You would like to know your admissions decision sooner rather than later because we are one of your top choices, but you would also prefer to consider alternative options before committing until the standard reply date of May 1.
Early Decision or Early Action applicants will be eligible for a minimum $15,000 annual merit scholarship. Note that a student may only receive one merit scholarship per admitted year.
Students must adhere to the specified timetables and crucial dates mentioned above to be eligible for specific programs and receive a variety of rewards. Early applications are advised to receive priority consideration for admission and merit scholarships to the University of New Haven, where admission is competitive.
Even for students requesting early decision or early action, our admissions office considers applications for admission continually. Within four to six weeks of submitting their completed application, students should anticipate hearing back on their application.
Deadlines for Spring Applications
The University of New Haven admits transfer students and prospective first-year students on a rolling basis for the spring semester.
For spring applications, the first week of December is the priority deadline.

Essential Application Documents
For undergraduate admission, all first-year applicants must turn in the following:
- Visit www.commonapp.org to access the Common Application online.
- An application fee of $50
- Official High School Transcript: While unofficial transcripts are acceptable to finish the application process, official transcripts are necessary for student enrollment.
- Essay (between 250 and 650 words; the Common App essay satisfies this criterion)
- Letter of Recommendation: Optional
- Official SAT or ACT results for populations and programs that are necessary
- Please be aware that test scores are not required by the University of New Haven for the majority of our programs, nor is a personal essay.
In addition, applicants for Early Decision must be:
- Finish a one-on-one interview with an admissions representative. Interviews may be done in person, over the phone, remotely, or at one of our regional events. (At www.newhaven.edu/interview, you can set up a personal interview.)
- Complete the Common Application and include the Early Decision Contract.
- Take into account filing the FAFSA with January 1 as your priority date.

Methods for Sending in Application Materials:
- Use the application portal to upload
- Send paperwork to admissions@newhaven.edu via email.
- School counselors submit electronically (Slate.org, Scoir, Naviance, etc.)
- Send paperwork to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
- Submission of SAT or ACT scores (if you want your scores to be taken into consideration)
- Use the ACT or College Board websites to request that official test results be supplied.
- Add your unofficial score report, which can be downloaded from the college board to your SAT site.
- Portfolio submission (only relevant for applicants to schools in music or design)
