Transport Planner at Guinness Ghana
Context/Scope:
To reach its goal of becoming the best consumer goods company in the world in terms of performance, trust, and respect, Diageo started a project to improve its processes, including how it handles its logistics operations. Diageo’s long-term goal is for strategic choices and control tower visibility to be made centrally through a Centre of Excellence (COE), while transactional work will be done by a managed service provider all across Africa using a single leading technology platform.
This is meant to help build and maintain standardization in MOVE processes, get a handle on operations through full codification, and set ambitious improvement goals for the markets. Disciplined use of the best technology and processes to make the most of what the area has to offer.
Creating a central talent pool of expert staff at an optimized cost for the diverse African market to tap skills, create growth opportunities, and reduce risks associated with employee turnover. Finally, building a competitive position over companies with the best in class Supply chain operations (mostly CPGs) COEs/Control towers for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Purpose of Role
This job is to help with the management of transport operations in the market by performing operations, working with transport providers, and adding to each market in the region. The results of this job are measured by how well costs are managed, how well customers are served, and how well people work together and create value.
Top 3 to 5 Responsibilities
- Using the TMS, make and share daily plans for incoming and outgoing travel.
- Help handle how much is spent on transportation so that it stays within budget and saves money in other ways. Using new ways of thinking in our transportation operations will help us meet cost and service goals in a safe way.
- Provide expert transport knowledge and an idea of how the market works so that logistics can be trusted.
- Plan and run KBL’s delivery operations to make sure they are efficient (TAT, truck usage, route optimization) and that customers are happy (CFR, OTIFNE, and returns)
- Develop and put into place safety, CARM, SFIPP, and all Diageo controls, as well as government rules, for the market’s transportation activities.
- Network modeling can help cut costs and improve the operation’s performance.
- Learn about the Transportation management system (TMS) and how it works. Using this method, we can improve the way we run our transportation business to save money and time.
Needed are qualifications and experience
- Proven experience working in a transport job with road freight in a manufacturing company with multiple sites in different countries
- Know how sea freight works and have done it before.
- Proven ability to get partners on board with plans and get support for making changes from transport suppliers.
- BSc or MSc in a field that has to do with supply chain
- Knowledge of the supply chain from beginning to finish and how to work with customers.
- Excellent speaking and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
- Understanding how cutting-edge technology can help logistics processes work well
- Knowledge of TMS, GPS tracking, and e-POD systems, as well as experience putting them into place.
- Number-savvy and able to use KPIs to drive performance management at all levels with transport providers
