Operator Technician at Guinness Ghana
Context/Scope:
GGB PLC has two locations and works in four types of drinks: stout, lager, ready-to-drink (RTD), and malt. They also sell spirits. The business is the biggest one in Ghana that makes beer.
In a competitive environment, the economy of Ghana is likely to keep growing at a rate of between 5% and 10% per year.
People in this area want to buy goods that are of the highest quality. There are also more people in the middle class, and they are likely to try out new goods.
GGB PLC is going through a big process of change, mostly in the areas of responsibility, quality maintenance practices, supply planning, lowering costs, and making the company run more efficiently. Role Purpose:
The Operator Technician – Packaging is a person with a background in engineering who offers packaging services to the user areas without interruption. He is also in charge of keeping the machines running during his shift so that they can meet the growing needs for quantity and quality in a safe and cost-effective way. Also, He takes part in the department’s PIPs and other efforts to improve things all the time. He should be in charge of how his training and growth are planned and carried out.
Operate packaging equipment (Fillers, Labellers, Decrater/Recrater, Blow molder, Decrater/Recrater, Palletizer/Depalletizer), monitor equipment performance, keep records, perform quality control checks, and make corrections according to the Standard Process Instruction (SPI) and Standard Work Instruction (SWI) to meet shift goals.
To do the first level of repair on packaging equipment
Most important duties:
- Help set standards for health and safety at work. Say and show that safety is our top concern as often as possible.
- Follow the site’s safety rules and the processes for how to use systems and equipment.
- Make sure that all parts of my operation’s Food Safety and Quality Management System are put into place, supervised, and followed, and that corrective steps are taken when needed.
- Meet all KPIs and give correct reports on them.
- Help the Packaging Team Lead meet production plans and key performance goals, as well as customer service levels that have been agreed upon.
- Make sure that the plant runs as well as possible by making sure that it is available as much as possible and running as efficiently as possible.
- Keep an eye on and correctly record all the important parameters of the different machines, such as temperature, pressure, current, voltage, etc.
- Take care of the materials, parts, and extras that their plant and equipment need. This includes taking stock from “bins” that are kept nearby and being responsible for the stock that is taken.
- Be flexible with your schedule, mood, and work habits, and help your coworkers when their equipment breaks down, needs maintenance, or has problems.
- Participate in competency-based training programs and build good ties with colleagues, including contractors.
- Put together and comment on whatever reports are needed, whether they are made from scratch or are made automatically. This includes things like status sheets, check sheets, sheets for keeping track of the state, etc.
Needed Skills and Work Experience:
- HND/MET III or EET III (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) or its equivalent
- 3 years of experience with operations, maintenance, process control, and measuring performance in a brewery, drinks factory, or food factory.
- Show that they have a thorough knowledge of the Permit to Work system, GGB PLC’s SHE policies, and their legal responsibilities and requirements.
- Show that you know about teamwork, continuous growth, preventive maintenance, and solving problems.
Barriers to Success in Role:
- They aren’t flexible enough to work in a manufacturing setting with tight staffing and changing sales and production needs.
- A lack of interest in training and growth on an individual and team level, as well as a lack of willingness to share and use newly learned skills.
- Not being able to connect with others and build good relationships.
- The business doesn’t understand what the marketing and demand agendas are.
