POSITION: IT Infrastructure Engineer
We are looking for a professional Engineer that is knowledgeable in AWS cloud technologies, detail-oriented, and proficient in technology and hardware to join our team. You will be responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting our systems and cloud-based infrastructure, which support our business operations and client services.
Duties, Responsibilities, and KPIs
Infrastructure Management:
- Create, install, and manage scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions (AWS).
- Implement best practices for AWS architecture, such as cost optimization, security, and performance tuning.
- Manage AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, and others as required.
- Monitor system performance and reliability, proactively finding and resolving issues.
System Design and Implementation:
- Understanding system management and how network hardware and technology operate.
- Provide technical help to end users, partners, and colleagues by diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand and convert business needs into technology solutions.
- Automate deployment, configuration, and administration processes to simplify operations and increase efficiency.
Security and compliance:
- Managing computer system security and data exchanges between applications.
- Implement and enforce security best practices and compliance standards, such as ISO27001, PCI DSS, and GDPR.
- Conduct frequent security evaluations and audits, and swiftly resolve any vulnerabilities or hazards that arise.
- Monitor and respond to security incidents while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
- Help create catastrophe recovery and business continuity plans.
Team Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with DevOps, development, and other teams to support project initiatives and address technical difficulties.
- Provide direction and support to team members regarding AWS cloud technologies and best practices.
Documentation and Training:
Generate and maintain comprehensive system documentation. Also included are network settings, methods, and procedures.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI):
Infrastructure Availability:
- The percentage of uptime for essential AWS services and applications.
- Goal: Keep AWS infrastructure availability above 99.9% per month.
Security Compliance:
- The number of security vulnerabilities found and remedied in the AWS environment.
- The percentage of compliance with applicable security criteria. (eg 27001)
- Goal: 100% compliance with appropriate security standards.
Cost Optimization:
- Cost savings realized through the optimization of AWS resources and services.
- Percentage decrease in AWS infrastructure expenses over time.
- Goal: Keep AWS infrastructure expenses within budget while increasing efficiency.
Incident Response Time:
- Average time for detecting and responding to AWS infrastructure faults.
- Mean time to resolve (MTTR) serious incidents that impact AWS services.
- Goal: Reduce incident reaction time and MTTR to ensure a minimal effect on operations.
Document Quality:
- The completeness and accuracy of documentation for AWS infrastructure settings, processes, and procedures.
- Documentation is regularly updated and improved based on user feedback and environmental changes.
- Objective: Maintain high-quality documentation to promote knowledge transfer and operational readiness.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly collaborate with one or more workers from the operations and IT departments.
Carry out supervisory tasks in accordance with organizational rules and applicable legislation.
Skills and Qualifications
To do this work successfully, a person must be able to complete each key duty satisfactorily. The qualifications given below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be given to allow people with disabilities to perform important duties.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a similar discipline (or comparable job experience).
- Proven experience as an Applications, Systems, and Networks Engineer or related function, with an emphasis on AWS cloud technologies.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services and infrastructure components, including hands-on experience with the AWS CLI and SDKs.
- Proficient in scripting languages including Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Understanding of database system management, enterprise resource planning, and web platform deployment.
- Strong awareness of networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, VLAN, Load Balancing, VPN, Routes, and so on), security principles, and best practices in cloud environments.
AWS qualifications (such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect and AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) or equivalent. - Proven experience with system (Linux) and network maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Excellent understanding of network protocols, hardware, and security best practices.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
