About this role:
Under the Newmont Stakeholder Handling Standard, support is required for the frontline handling of community issues as well as day-to-day proactive interactions to foster excellent community relationships and societal acceptance.
To enable the open flow of information, the individual is expected to be the initial point of contact and liaison between the company and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Supervisor in assembling, familiarizing, and implementing Newmont policies, programs, and management systems relating to stakeholder engagement in Ahafo North.
- Support the development and execution of engagement strategies to improve and sustain positive connections with communities, local governments, and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure maximum involvement and collaboration in NGL activities.
- Conduct an informal stakeholder expectation and perception analysis to tell management about the threats and opportunities in mine communities, and identify appropriate engagement tactics to handle the situation.
- Gather community intelligence that could jeopardize the mine’s smooth operations and submit it to S&ER management.
- Support the creation and constant upgrading of a stakeholder register for engagement purposes.
- Contributes to the establishment of stakeholder mapping, which identifies various stakeholders and their corresponding interests to lead to effective stakeholder interaction.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of an annual stakeholder engagement schedule.
- Support the community’s entrance processes for operational and/or exploration activities.
- Support the Complaints, Grievances, and Conflict Resolution process.
Ahafo Social Responsibility Agreement Implementation
- Assist in the implementation of Newmont Ahafo’s responsibilities under the Local Employment, Relationship, and Foundation Agreements.
- Coordinate with the HR Department and Business Partners on the execution of the Local Employment Agreement to satisfy the needs of both skilled and unskilled labour requisitions.
- Facilitate information distribution to ASRF members in the Ahafo North catchment.
- Assist with the vetting of local community members’ job applications.
- Assist in identifying and selecting local community people for Newmont training programs.
- Distribute all job openings at NGGL and its business partners to the community.
Audit and Reporting
- Maintain adequate records in Enablon of all stakeholder engagements for easy retrieval.
- Support any external social audits involving community and stakeholder participation in mine communities.
- Collect all External Social Audit suggestions for NGGL stakeholder engagement and public participation activities.
- Support the implementation of the authorized stakeholder engagement schedule and create an “Issues and Response” report for each engagement for management use.
Safety
- Report any occurrences and accidents within the workgroup so that management can identify areas for improvement in work procedures.
- Support with Mine blast notice updates and monitoring to safeguard the safety of community members and animals.
- Demonstrate safety leadership by adhering to Newmont Ghana Health and Safety regulations and procedures, which include, but are not limited to, safety inspections, safety training, annual refresher, safety talks, incident reporting, and investigation.
- Attend safety/environmental meetings and present accurate information.
Working Conditions
- The position is located at the Ahafo North mine site.
Training & Experience
Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):
- First Degree in Social Science or Related Fields
Additional knowledge:
- A solid awareness of local culture and practices.
- Conflict Resolution Skills.
- Good understanding of electrical maintenance principles and industry standards.
- Understanding of the workflow management process.
- Knowledge of planning and scheduling.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2–3 years of work experience in the mining industry, similar field, or equivalent industry.
- Broad experience in stakeholder relationship management, community relations, and public relations/public affairs.
Technical Skills:
- Good interpersonal skills (interacting with people from various functional and cultural backgrounds).
- Strong communication abilities (both written and verbal).
