POSITION: Unit Manager – Mining

Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture of Galiano Gold Inc. and Gold Fields. The Multi-Pit Asanko Gold Mine complex in Ghana’s Ashanti Region serves as the company’s major asset. Galiano Gold Inc. manages and operates the Asanko Gold Mine.

Job Description

A vacancy exists in our Mining Department for the job of UNIT MANAGER – MINING.

JOB PURPOSE

To lead the site Mine Planning team in meeting long-term strategies and targets for delivering quality ore to the process plant in a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Mine Planning team to meet departmental and mine-wide production and cost targets, among other needs.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance to the team and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver mine plans that align with long-term strategy and objectives (e.g., pit optimization, pit and waste dump designs, production schedules, equipment optimization).
  • Ensure that short-term plans are consistent with medium-term plans.
  • Liaise with the Corporate Technical Team on mine planning activities.
  • Make optimum use of ore stockpiles to provide continuous ore supply to crushers.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement techniques to improve systems and processes while successfully managing production costs.
  • Ensure that pit and dump engineering designs are available and exceed all technical and safety standards.
  • Ensure that block models are updated and available for planning purposes.
  • Ensure that quarterly production and cost forecasts are prepared and reconciled.
  • Establish production and cost KPIs to eliminate waste in cost-cutting efforts.
  • Communicate essential elements of the business plan to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all mine plans and designs meet legislative and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the budgeting process and give production inputs for the Life of Mine Plan during each budget and forecasting cycle.
  • Manage the company’s mining and haulage contractors to ensure that contract objectives are accomplished.
  • Assign oversight responsibilities for the Mine Survey section.
  • Oversee mining production and hauling operations.
  • Mentor and develop Mine Engineers under the Department’s Succession Planning, and ensure there is enough backup to replace vacant positions when incumbents leave.
  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by your supervisor.

Required Skill or Experience

Knowledge

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a similar discipline from a recognized institution is required. A Mine Superintendent certificate from Ghana’s Minerals Commission Inspectorate Division is preferred.
  • Must have at least six (6) years of post-qualification experience in an open pit mining setting, as well as strong leadership skills.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of mining safety rules, environmental compliance, and the usage of modern mining technologies.
  • Proven track experience in commanding big mining teams and running complicated operations.
  • Working understanding of the Republic of Ghana’s Mining Act and related regulations, as well as the ability to interpret and apply them.
  • Strong knowledge and comprehension of applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and legal requirements.
  • Hands-on expertise with mine planning software will be advantageous.
  • Ability to assess data, create strategies, and carry out action plans to improve operational performance.
  • Strong computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Must be a results-driven and action-oriented individual.
  • Must have a valid Ghanaian license, at least five (5) years of driving experience, and the ability to drive in tough terrain.
