New Job Opportunities at CAF
CAF is the governing body of African football, established in 1957. The founding members are Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa. The secretariat is situated in Egypt and represents 54 member associations.
The 1954 FIFA Congress in Berne, Switzerland, resolved to acknowledge Africa as a confederation. This granted the continent the authority to choose its first delegate to the FIFA Executive Committee, which was Egypt’s Abdel Aziz Abdallah Salem.
The wheels that led to the formation of CAF were set in motion outside of Africa, in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 1956. The Portuguese city was hosting the FIFA Congress, and it was the four African nations in attendance (Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa) that led the African Confederation to the baptismal font by using the event to debate issues of mutual concern.
Following the FIFA Congress in Lisbon, the four nations agreed to meet again in Khartoum, Sudan, in February 1957 to prepare statutes and discuss the hosting of the first Africa Cup of Nations. The momentous meeting that established the official creation of CAF took place on February 8, 1957, at the Grand Hotel in Khartoum.
Following the passage of the laws, Egypt’s Abdel Aziz Abdallah Salem was unanimously elected president, making him the confederation’s first president.
On February 10, 1957, following the CAF’s first General Assembly, the Sudanese capital witnessed the inception of the Africa Cup of Nations, which Egypt won.
It would mark the beginning of an incredible journey that would continue to this day, with innumerable wonderful events along the way that would help establish the features and traits associated with African football.
